I am getting a pair of the 520s. The issue is my room and somewhat crazy setup.

I am fairly tall and my head is 4 1/2' off the floor. The only decent stands I have are only 24" tall.

This is for my PC setup which poses another concern. I have a 24" LCD Monitor which I fabricated a metal shelf for allowing it to be about 1 1/2' from my face. Will this block sound with the speakers being behind the monitor?

I have a small room but there is enough space for the speakers to be 8' apart but I want them to only be about 1' from the wall if possible. Being a front ported speaker I would hope this is ok. I can get as much as 3' away from the wall but then I would have to move everything.

If your monitor is slightly in front of your speakers, there is a chance that it might reflect some sound depending on how toed in the speakers are. Then again you probably wont hear anything bad because of it, it's just something to consider if you're nitpicky.

How far away from the wall you want to place your speakers is up to your tastes. Closer to the wall, and the wall essentially becomes part of the speaker's front baffle. This increases bass response. Move them further away from the wall and you're likely to get better imaging along with toning down the bass.

Bottom line is to try things out and see how they sound in different positions. Enjoy your speakers first, obsess about the placement later. You might even try putting them in crazy positions just to see how the sound where you're listening from changes. That's always a fun and informative thing to do.

what about height though? I have my satellites almost at ear level now and like that sound. no way to do it with these unless I build a fantastic....hmmmm wait naw..

how weird would it be to have the speakers 6' apart but only 3' in a straight line from my ears?

I mean slightly behind the monitor on a wing shelf in the middle of the room if you can visualize that.

Having your speakers futher apart from each other than they are to you doesn't sound as bad as you would think. Toe them in and as long as they're not too close to the wall (or facing each other), the sound will remain clear.

If your stands are too short, you can either wait to buy new stands, place your existing stands on cinder blocks to raise them a bit and add dampening, or try using them as nearfield monitors with the speakers on mopads (http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolati...ion_mopad.asp). They'll be tilted up so your head will be more of less on axis with the tweeters.

For now I'd just wait to see how things turn out. If you feel like you're missing out, by all means, try and make it better.

My thought: angle the speakers up a bit with Herbie's footers or something like that in front.

They won't be coupled as well to the surface they're on, but will drive the signal more directly to your ears.

EDIT: and yes, move them from being behind the monitor.....

your link is busted.

mopads just look like foam padding. I was going to use some form of isolation but from the hardware store lol. still, they are only $50. are they worth it?
