(IMHO designing a device of any kind without user replaceable batteries is a rip-off. The only reason to do so is to force us to buy new equipment. Whether or not we are satisfied, indeed deliriously happy with what we have, they force us to discard it and replace it.

Do any current hard drive players have user replaceable batteries?

I can't find any in my searches.

Thanks

The Creative Zen Micro has user replaceable batteries....the only problem is (I'm guessing) they use proprietry batteries for it (although, at 40 bucks a pop, it's not horribly overpriced).

Thannks for that feedback.

At least they give you a choice!

At that point, if I feel the price of a battery is too high, I will be more likely to buy a new device from the maker who gives me that choice.

Both have user replaceable batteries.

Thanks.

I wasn't quite as clear as I intended to be.

I was thinking in terms of new models. I had intended to say something like "such as the Zen Xtra did, but the new Zen Touch doesn't." But I thought that would seem a bit verbose. I should have followed my first instinct.

I think the Zen Micro is the only current player with a replaceable battery.

I wish the Zen Touch followed suit.

Thanks

Well, yes. Sort of. It is certainly not designed with the idea that the consumer will replace the battery. But, yeah, you can.

The process is, shall we say, Uninviting? Difficult? Disheartening? The potential for damaging your iPod is high. But yes, you can if you are brave and/or skilled enough.

Just out of curiosity, have you (or anyone else reading this) gone through this process?

I for one acknowledge a fair degree of klutziness in my dna, and would not be disposed to even attempt it.

But your feedback is appreciated..
