See BadApple app here. Screenshots here.
BadApple will work with a wide range of MP3 players such as the Creative Nomad, Dell DJ, Oakley Thump, Archos and more. Any unit that mounts as a USB mass storage device should work well with BadApple. You can even sync to a network drive.
As seen on DAPreview.

And before the criticism starts, yes some people would use iTunes with another player if possible.

I think this is great. Apple probably doesn't like it, but it's another option for consumers.

One reason I don't use Sony, Creative, etc. DAPs is I don't like their software. I also don't want to mount as a hard disk and manually drag-and-drop. I have 17,000 songs on a 698GB RAID5, iTunes is just about the only way to manage the library.

Sounds cool. I don't suppose if you know whether this works with the karma?...

Or if there are user created plugins that allow iTunes to play ogg files or other formats. It is annoying when I have either an ogg version or aac version only of a song and I have to keep that and transcode it to ogg (for the karma) or aac (for my itunes library) and have to keep two copies around. I could transcode it to mp3 and leave it at that, but i'd rather have a non-double compressed version available, and using ogg or aac is the only way to ensure two versions don't show up in either applications. Plus, creating playlists in itunes and sending it to the karma is a pita when said files are involved.

If there was such a plugin and this new thing works with the karma, I would be happy. RMM isn't bad, but 5 minutes to rescan the library upon every startup is ridiculous when I just want to send one playlist or a new album. Having one program that manages libraries, plays music and carries out transfers is something truly of envy that ipod users have.

Doubt it as the Karma isn't OTGUSB. Maybe able to use it with another prog though to make it. There is a Windows plugin for Vorbis playback if I remember correctly.

This presents a serious dilemma for categorizing people into "sheep" / "non-sheep". If you buy a non-iPod, but then use iTunes, what is the community's consensus? Are you still a sheep? Are you an envious or hypocritical sheep?

It's definitely safer to buy a Microsoft "PlaysForSure"-enabled device. You won't have to worry about being seduced by iTunes.

I would say they fall into the "black sheep" category. They can mingle with the rest of the sheep, but in the end, they realy don't want to be affiliated with them. I use a non-iPod brand player because I enjoy treating it like an external drive and I am not held back by having to use iTunes to organize my music, yet I use iTunes on my computer as a player because of the "smart playlist" feature and the ability to use my freinds airTunes. I don't alow iTunes to organize my music on my harddrive for me (I'm anal like that), but I enjoy using it to have my music organized by genre and comment, since it is only within the program.

I may give this plugin a try just to see what all the fuss is about, but I realy enjoy organizing my music according to my crazy little structure that I can't deviate from or I start going crazy (with 60GB of music, you have to have a system in place just to keep track of it all).

This is the perfect idea. All I want is iTunes to treat my old iRiver just like an iPod. Then all is well.

So, I installed this, and I got this error:

I posted it on the BadApple forums, so we'll see. Anyone else get this?

Yes but you could always use Media Monkey to manage the library.
