Hello everybody,
I am on the lookout for a USB-transfer to use with my Aune X1 dac since it is limited to 16/40 over USB, and also reports say it performs much better over coaxial.
Was browsing on ebay and found this:
HLLY MMK-I 24bit/96k USB to SPDIF / I2S / Opt Converter
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HLLY-MMK-I-24bit-96k-USB-SPDIF-I2S-Opt-Converter-/400175768733?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2c55a49d
It looks to be equivalent to the Teralink-X2, but seems to use a higher precision crystal?
The teralink-x2 is found for roughly the same money here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Teralink-X2-Native-24bit-96k-USB-SPDIF-I2S-Converter-/250988944739?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a701b5d63
Also, I have been eyeing this device:
HA INFO U2 Native 24bit/96k USB to SPDIF/TOSLINK Converter (dts ,AC3)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HA-INFO-U2-Native-24bit-96k-USB-SPDIF-TOSLINK-Converter-dts-AC3-/260976546916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc36a1464
and this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-SPDIF-coaxial-I2S-processor-TE7022-24bit-96K-board-sc-/190654488541?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c63e49fdd
They all seem to be based on the same chip, the TENOR TE7022L, but I am not sure if all are capable of asynchronous USB? Does the presence of a crystal clock directly mean asynchronous USB?
So my question is, which one do I choose?
Just by looking at components, maybe the DIY solutions (added one below capable of separate power supply) are the best option, or the HA Info U2 perhaps since the components are roughly the same and the price is lower (then teralink and Hlly). Is separate power supply such a big deal?
A last option that I can get dirt cheap ($8) is the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX, which seems to be one of the very first commercial asynchronous USB audio devices, but I have a hard time finding out whether it is Bit-perfect capable or not, also it is very old.
Gratefully accept any help here, I have read good things about Teralink-X2, and also some good things about the HA INFO U2 (but need confirmation on the asynchronous USB thing).
EDIT: Some more devices.
Matrix 24 bit / 96 KHz USB to Coaxial (spdif) Converter new tas1020b, capable of 16 - 24 bit @ 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96KHz

and a DIY version of Teralink-X2 and the HLLY MMK-I from the looks of the picture:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TE7022-24Bit-96Khz-USB-2-0-Coaxial-Converter-DAC-I2S-IIS-Optical-Out-/260963915866?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc2a9585a
And another one like the others
SMSL SD-022 DAC USB input /coaxial optical output /TE7022 24Bit 96K
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMSL-SD-022-DAC-USB-input-coaxial-optical-output-TE7022-24Bit-96K-/110763846764?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ca0a2c6c
EDIT: Actually none of these seems to be asynchronous USB when actually tested (except Creative sound blaster), but they seem to sound fine anyway, maybe it is not such a big deal.
