Hey,

I`ve been posting in the other category section regarding headphone amps (set on getting the Gilmore Lite with DPS), has anyone had any experience with this headphone amp with the Moonlab Dice DAC?? (will be connecting to a empty PCI-USB card).

I originally was going to set up the headphone amp with my soundcard; SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Plat Pro, however as I have the HD650`s I really want to get the best out of them (not spending £thousands£ on it however).

Many Thanks.

O3ric.

I highly doubt you'll find someone who've used that combo, simply because there only have been 1-3 people to ever even mention the Dice DAC on these boards.

Hey Disiskurt,

..."I highly doubt you'll find someone who've used that combo, simply because there only have been 1-3 people to ever even mention the Dice DAC on these boards"...

umm do not know if that's a good or bad sign. Very difficult to try and find a good match to stuff you can not test out and hear. However looking at reviews the Dice seems highly rated, and the Gilmore also, so might just need to take a chance.

Thanks.

I have been going around and around trying to match a good DAC with my (soon to get) Gilmore lite w/dps and my (already own) HD650.

Can anyone suggest a good DAC? Will be connecting using USB, however would also like the option for coaxial digital (but not important).

Many Thanks

Lite Dac AM modified maybe, or

The Presonus Central Station reviews well compared to more expensive DAC's and it's relatively cheap with a decent amp to boot.

or at the higher end at this price range is the CIA VDA-2, which seems to be very transparent, but not overly bright or harsh

Edit: Sorry, missed the part about USB...hmm how about a Meier Move? TTVJ link

I assume you mean the Moodlab Dice DAC?

I have one and the HD650, but I've never heard a Gilmore Lite.

The Moodlab Dice is a nice non-oversampling TDA1543 DAC. It is very small and compact. Status lights show through the translucent front panel. The USB option is very convenient for use with a laptop or a PC without a decent SPDIF output.

I think it sounds OK. It has a similar type of sound as the Mhdt Lab Dialogue II and the Mhdt Lab Constantine USB. A warm, smooth and full-bodied type of sound that can be very pleasing, especially with relaxing jazz vocals or slow-paced vocals.

I used to have an E-MU 1212m and consider most external DACs I've tried to sound better than its analog outputs. I would guess the Moodlab Dice or Constantine USB will be a significant improvement over your current sound card.
