I've got the V-DAC set up for the wife:

computer -> usb input on V-DAC -> active speakers

Really like the sound of MF products and am now thinking about a computer setup for myself.

I'm considering:

computer -> usb input on X-CAN V8P -> amp -> passive speakers

I'll probably get some headphones in the future, but my main focus is (and will be) on listening to monitors. So I'd be treating the XCAN as a USB DAC and pre-amp.

Anyone know if the DACs in the two MF products are the same? Sound-wise, anyone care to give any comparisons?

Dumb idea? Got a better suggestion for USB DAC + pre in the $500 range?

OK, I got no love on the original question, and I've expanded my search... so a re-title was in order.

I'd love to hear your opinions of the following USB DACs with preamps:
MF X-CAN V8P
Beresford TC-7520
Fubar IV Plus
Keces DA-152

If anyone could offer a comparison to a V-DAC with outboard preamp that would be fantastic as well.
