I would like to summarize what my components are before we plunge into this thread.

Using Foobar2000 with a D4 mamba DAC/AMP combo.

I have set the output in the preferences of the Foobar2000 as USB DAC and the DAC is connected playing the music beautifully through my HD 25-1 II's.

My questions is I have set the volume on the foobar as 0db which is the full volume, but since the connection to the DAC is through USB,I don't understand why the volume of the foobar comes into play, what that means is if I reduce the volume ,that affects the output volume on my headphones.

Since I'am bypassing the amp section of the laptop shouldn't the USB behave as a Line Out.

Does this mean that the signal is being converted to analog somewhere in the laptop.

I would really appreciate if someone could explain this to me.

EDIT- I have now got both KS and ASIO4ALL,I haven't done much of a test but will be interested to know what your experiences with them are.
ASIO4ALL does have a few setting too, what are the changes if any to be made to them.

The computer still has to decode the files and I believe it still goes through volume compression before being fed into the dac.

This means that a USB DAC in no way is a true line out, is that true

it means it doesn't go through the sound card so it sound how it suppose to sound on a better system, which the computer doesn't hold back, i believe that's true line out, i think, idk

When you say it doesn't go through the sound card, does that mean the sound card amp,if that is the case how is the volume control on the foobar2000 active.

If someone would have a block diagram , will make explaination a little easier.

Only the sound(which is the only thing that matters) goes straight through to the Dac nothing else, everything else still goes through the computer, i think(i could be wrong)

No. USB only passes digital. A digital signal includes volume information.

Also, please don't bump threads, ESPECIALLY every 10 minutes. Have some patience please, you wont die if you don't find out the answer immediately.

Sorry but there is no place for smarty's like you at Head-Fi, we are are very distinguished community here.
Next time think 10 times before putting up a quote like that or else I will get the Moderators to banish you from here.

I understand you get the message.

With that sort of attitude to distinguished members like Currawong (who has been a member of this community far longer than you have), YOU are the one who is likely to be banished, with 2 bumps within the space of 11 minutes. YOU should think 10 times - heck, 100 times - before attempting to try and put other people in their place.

And I think Currawong would know about the community here - if you glance to the right of your page, Currawong's blog is featured in the Blog section of the site.

Kanlraiker, please don't bump your thread every few minutes, don't treat members here who are trying to help you as rudely as you are right now, and do not threaten members in any way at any time. Thank you.
