Here is my issue. I have a X-fi XtremeMusic with the front bay module. My Xbox 360 is hooked up to the optical in on this module. When I set the sound playback device in Windows to the X-fi card, I can hear the 360 if I unmute the optical in channel. All this is working correctly.
Ok, so here's the problem. When I hook up a USB DAC, like my iBasso D1 or the Pico I will be getting soon, I can't hear the 360 sound output anymore. Of course, this is supposed to be how it works, since the playback device, the DAC amp, doesn't have a line in channel. This presents a problem, however, since that means that I can't use the USB DAC if I want to hear the 360's sound. This isn't an issue for the D1 since I can just use the optical in to get a digital signal, but on the Pico, it presents a huge problem since its USB DAC is one of the key reasons why I'm getting it.
So my question is, is there any way of using the output of one sound card, but still be able to hear the input on another sound card? It might help to know that I can record the input on one sound card, then play it back on the output of another sound card (as long as the devices are set correctly in the Control Panel), but I can't hear the input while it's being played/recorded.
Oh, I should also mention that I'm trying to keep the audio signal digital for as long as possible before it gets converted to analog. Of course, I can easily hook up the 360 to the amp's line in, but I want all the inputs and outputs to be digital, and converted to analog only within the amp itself when it has to output to the headphones.
