USB-C to 3.5mm adapters (DAC) - Let's find the best

Well, actually I don't believe that Meizu DAC is better (especially "way better") than Ztella and DC01. Time will tell.
Well I only said that the Meizu should be significantly better than the DC02.
As for Meizu vs Ztella:

As for the DC01: iBasso only specifies a THD+N of <0.001% which is pretty basic and them not disclosing the SNR doesn't exactly scream confidence either...

Fast like what? How many hours?

I haven't really tested it properly, but I was surprised at how much battery power was drained after using it. I remember reading somewhere it uses somewhat more than 100mA, but I can't find it anymore. The specs say it varies with how you are using it, which sounds logical. A quick check with a battery charging monitor app indicated around 100mA when playing a 44.1Khz file with Tidal through UAPP, so that seems about right. It gets pretty warm when using high frequency audio.

Well, actually I don't believe that Meizu DAC is better (especially "way better") than Ztella and DC01. Time will tell.

iBasso DC01 Slightly more power, better lows control, better resolution across the frequency range, but at the expense of more power consumption and balanced connection.

Like this review says for instance. I'm looking forward to your findings and might get one (and maybe a Musiland one as well) with black Friday, to compare them. I do prefer balanced though.

Well you won't have that problem with either of the E1DA DACs.
But 12 steps is a seriously bad design.

I might be exaggerating a little, but the steps are pretty big and bad.

has anyone tried the original htc USB-C Digital to 3.5mm adaptor supplied with smartphones?
someone says it's valid
i would like to buy mediocre in-ear headphones (i think the beyerdynamic soul byrd) but I am afraid that the adapter is not good and therefore I would not be able to get the best from my headphones.
hi, I have a HTC U11 with the original HTC USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that came with the phone. The adapter quality is amazing, sound is great, no distortion, clean, no background noise, does not heat up. There's no info on the DAC inside the adapter though. But I only use it with my HTC U11 and a "over-ear" Pioneer SE-MJ722T-R headphone (6Hz to 40,000Hz frequency range, 40mm driver).

Ivan measured the 9038D at 170mA (90mA for the S) and that won't change for the official version or even for future revisions probably since the D is at it's core a Dual Rail design and will naturally need roughly twice as much power as the 9038S's Single Rail design.
But but S is balanced and D is single ended right ?

It should be the other round as single ended needs lesser power consumption but I know it's already predetermined
No. It is completely dependent upon the design.

More efficient and double the power... any source for that claim?

I really don't see how the ESS chip could possibly be better than the Cirrus Chip
Could you post a similar image comparing Ztella and 9038S?

I have the Sonata and like it, but I've become a dedicated ES100 user. I think the sound quality is better and also have come to appreciate being able to use it while also having my phone connected to a charging cable. Also, I really like the fact that it has its own mic, which enables me to take calls on IEMs that don't have an inline mic, and of the two IEMs I own, I prefer the one w/o the mic. Finally, I appreciate the versatiliy of being able to use the ES100 as a USB dac w/ my MacBook.
