Hello there! I'm really in the urge of buying a new pair of headphones for my father's birthday.
Now, i have only time until the 7th of may, so please answer quickly
So it seems that google is not my friend anymore, and i haven't found any decent comparisons between the k702s and 701s. 
To me they seem basically the same, except for the color scheme (i find the k702 of a more enjoyable color), and the fact that the k702 has a detachable cable, and i read that they have the same drivers.
However i also read that someone who has both finds a better bass response in the k702, so i really don't know what's the difference.
On the AKG site i see that they mention some flat-wire coiling in the k702, while in the k701 they don't (methinks that that's not a major difference).
Now the k702 here retails for 317€ (which converts to about 470$) while the k701 goes for 199€ (which in turn is around 296$)
The K702 has a detachable cable, however the cable and the connectors seem the same, and the k701 includes a plastic stand, which would help a lot, given the fact my father's doesn't really tidy his room frequently.
So yeah, could you please help me?

I'm pretty sure you already got it spot on. Many people say that the K702 and K701 sound the exact same, I guess it just comes down to if you can actually hear that "difference" (if it exists, I've never heard them side by side). Most people who buy the K702 buy it for the color or the detachable cable though~
To make things even more complicated, the Q701 is said to have the most bass out the three xD

That sums it up. Save the 116 euros for a headphone amplifier later. I have the 702 but wished I got the 701 for for cable balancing, something I'm sure your father won't get into.

The only difference is really the color and the detachable cable. The cable won't make much difference to your father, so just buy it based on price and color preference.

@kagelou really people think the q701 has moar bass? hahaha that sucks because it will be overpriced as hell... but again, i was about to do the same mistake
@openreel well he is in fact an audiophile, but more of the speaker kind, so maybe he'll want to recable and balance them... we'll see
@choka yeah, the detachable cable probably is a feature mostly used in pro studios, and that my father doesn't have

Where are you buying the K701/702 from? You can buy the Q701 for $250 from electronics-expo right now if that helps you make your decision any easier. Plus you get the detachable cable as well. The black ones look pretty damn nice.

I would suggest the K701 as it's a more flexible option. Since the K701 has a hard wired cable you can easily reterminate the cable to balanced or convert it to a Hirose connector. If you don't have a need for the added flexibility, then get the K702 as the detachable cable is very nice.

use coupon LSDA0422. You might have to put it in 2-3 times but it will eventually take it. They come out to ~$260 shipped.
