I'm thinking about buying an 80gb IPod Classic, however I'm not sure what to buy to improve the sound quality. I'm considering buying a "Cryo Dock", however I'm also interested in the "Total Airhead" amp. I'm using a pair of "Equation Audio: RP-21's" with Beyer Leather Pads.

Which one of these would be more effective with the IPod (If I only bought one)? Is it worth the price (~$200) to buy both? The price of an IPod Classic with $200 added on comes very close to the price of the "Kenwood HD30GA9".

I've never actually owned an IPod before, so I'd love to know your opinions on this.

Thanks

The Equation RP21 sounds great, however they are big for portable use. How do you plan on using them? For an amp I would choose the Supermicro IV, the Porta Corda MkIII, or the iBasso D1.

The first will take a few months to get but it is the best sounding. The last two would be in your hands in a week or so. Good luck.

i would either go with a 5.5g 80gb imod for $450... or go for the hd30gb9

I'm having a hard time picking between those 2.. The 80gb is the advantage for the imod, but the kenwood... looks so much nicer, might even sound nicer.. and its kenwood! Made in japan. Only it comes in only 30gb! I wonder if there's a way to upgrade the capacity

I’ll be primarily using the player on college breaks when I can’t get to my computer. It would be nice to listen to music while working in the library and in-between classes. Since I’m not planning on doing any major physical activity while wearing my RP-21s, I think they’ll be portable enough for my needs.

Those headphone amps look really awesome; however they’re a bit out of my price-range. I was hoping to get something under $100. What do you think of the IBasso T1 & T2. Those are in my price range and look like pretty good amps for use with the IPod. Would you recommend those over something like the Total Airhead Amp?

I think I’d go for the Hd30gb9 over the IMod. If there was a way to upgrade the HD I’d be extremely interested in it. If the HD30gh9 was closer in price to the “IPod Classic” I’d probably buy the HD30gb9. The only thing I’d miss is the video viewing option of the IPod, but I’d drop that in a second for a great sounding internal amp and customizable EQ.
