I have been thinking about the idea of trying to replace the "3 second" ESP memory chip in my D-515 with the "10 second" one from my D-777, or maybe from one of the newer G-shock or ESP2 PCDPs. Does anyone have any idea of the feasibility of this idea? Is it possible? I don't yet even have a service manual for my 515, but I am going to try to get one.
Could it be as simple as just replacing the memory with a larger capacity, but pin compatible chip? Or would it likely only store 3 seconds of music in the larger capacity chip anyway due to the surrounding circuitry?
I might want to first experiment on less expensive players from the early 90s with ESP (like the D-321 or D-335).
I am also wondering about how difficult it would be to reverse engineer the circuitry in the D-515 to come up with a schematic.
