New Head-Fier
Hi, guys!
I'm total noob in the quality sound, but i really like a new feelings, that i can achieve with the quality headphones.
At the moment i have a weird audio setup and hope to fix it soon.
I use a Macbook Pro with Tidal -> Audirvana as a source, then connect Fiio X3 II as a DAC, and then via Audioquest Evergreen cable i connect my equipment to the Schiit Magni 2 Uber amp.
X3 II is a nice piece of equipment for the price, but really buggy and sometimes made my crazy, so i decided to upgrade it to a standalone DAC.
I had some long nights in the forums, deciding between Modi 2 Multibit, Bifrost, SMSL M8A, etc. then a couple more nights, deciding which cables do i need, and, guys, it made me crazy once at 5am
My friend offered me Naim DAC-V1 in a mint condition, and since i know him more than 20 years, i dont have any doubts in condition, and i like the sound from the integrated headphone amp.
So i have a couple of questions
Does Dac-V1 worth an upgrade considering a $1000 offer? May be some better options to consider for about 1000USD?
Is its amp substantially better than Magni 2 Uber? Jotunheim?
Can its amp compete with the really good amps like SPL Auditor / Phonitor?
I can buy brand new SPL Phonitor for 1000, and, may be with the relatively cheap but good dac like Modi 2 Multibit i'll have better results?
$1500 is my upper limit at the moment, but i can spend a grand now and one more in a couple of months, if there is a great pair of DAC + amp for the given budget (DAC-V1 + phonitor, for example)
Unfortunately, i live in the middle of nowhere, and it's next to impossible to go to the shop where i can test different equipment in the calm atmosphere, so i'm looking for the most neutral sound equipment with the reasonable good performance
Usually i listen a rock classics and metal like Zeppelin / Queen / Ozzy / Metallica / Dream Theater and found it pleasure to listen some jazz and classics. No pop,, rap or disco.
Headphones are: SR80e, HD600 (borrowed for an indefinite period) and monoprice M1060 (really like them!!!)
Hope for your help and advices
Yuriy
PS: sorry for my awkward english, i'm not a native speaker. but i hope to improve here too
