I've had Sennheiser HD 439's for years and love their sound quality and how comfortable they are, but I'm looking to upgrade. I need a pair of headphones for everything - gaming, movies, music and skype calls. I'm looking for over-ear, closed headphones with a mic for talking in skype, which are comfortable enough to be worn for long periods. Noise isolation is fairly important, as I live in a busy/loud household. I'm considering something like the Audio Technica ATH-AG1; would these headphones be a significant improvement in sound quality compared to my HD 439's? Also, do higher quality headphones always require amps, or would my desktop computer be powerful enough to run them?

Any other suggestions for headphones will really help!

A lot of head-fiers go for the AntLion ModMic 4.0. Then you can use whatever headphone you want. Massdrop currently has it available for $40 shipped: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/antlion-modmic-4 (you have to register to access the deal).
