I got the Denon D1001 a while ago and I love them. I don't think it makes much sense to go to the Denon D2000 because I kinda want to experiment with different brands and see if I can tell the differences. Which headphone should I get and which amp should I get?

My current portable set up is just an iPod Classic and a Sansa Clip.

I'm not looking into that Stax stuff. I just want something that is different from the Denons so I can try something new.

I don't care if it is open or closed, they will mostly be for home use.

I don't really have a budget since I already see how much these things can go up to.

Nothing too crazy please (no R-10, K1000, Stax stuff)

So yea, a recommendation for

A non Denon Headphone that is enough of an upgrade so that I can hear quite a big difference

And an amp that goes well with those headphones.

Hi,
I was in the same situation. I was happy with the denon but wanted to try something different. I added AKG 271s MK II to the mix and pretty happy with the result. The 271 is quite a lot better with vocal specially for movie dialog, and better on the micro resolution ( the space better instrument and note are presented better on the akg). The bass on the the denon is deeper to my ear but not as tight as the akg. The high on the akg seems to be brighter but not as sweet as the denon. So if you want to try something different, check out the akg. I am keeping both of them.
Cheers,
AP

I don't think it's worth the money considering you'll probably need an amp to see the difference. I got the Sansa Clip and the Denon D1001 as well and i wouldn't spend more because the Denon is already perfect for such mp3 devices.
