Hi there!

Currently, I use the Klipsch S4's with an iPod touch + FiiO E1 or my standard Laptop as audiosource.
How does the Sennheiser HD-595 compare to the S4's? What's the difference in sound? Is it even comparible?

To be precise, I will rephrase my question:

I tried last month a pair of senn's 595, and is the best replacement for IEM's..i listened some music and some games and i was happy with the soudstage. They are expensive though.

According to conventional internet wisdom, you can get the same sound signature as the HD595 by buying the HD555 and doing what is called the "Foam Mod" (literally just unscrewing three screws and taking a piece of foam out of the headphones on each side). I've never heard the 595's or the S4's, so I can't claim to know for a fact that the 595's are better, or that the 555's can be turned into 595's for certain (though people more in the know than me have stated that the housing and driver of the 555 is literally the same as the 595, minus the leather headband and chrome trim)

Oh, and either the FiiO E1 or the laptop port will be fine for driving the 595's if you decide to go that route. They get a little better with proper amplification, but it isn't an absolute necessity to amp them like it is on the 600's or 650's.

Got me the HD555, did the "Foam-mod", liked it.
My Laptop is still having a hard time to drive the 555's using foobar2000 + asio4all v2. iPod+E1 seems to handle them better, at a decent volume and without hiss.
I hope, the E7 will be released soon.

I already like the sound of the 5*5's, let's see how they prosper after some burn-in

That's one hell of a jump. From what I've read, the HD595 doesn't sound anything like the S4. Have not heard the 595 mind, only heard the S4. But the S4 is a bright, but still warm bassy IEM with a grainy quality and small soundstage.

HD595 is an open, more balanced sound with good clairty, without much bass and a big soundstage from what I've gathered. Totally different beasts.

Thanks for your post, but I probably don't agree with that. I'm gonna give the 5*5's some time and then compare them to the S4's!
