So I have a magni/modi powering my akg k240. These days I mostly game, although I do listen to classical music, and most other music genres.

So what's the best choice for me? I use the have hd 600 and liked them, they got stolen. Although something better for gaming would be nice. DT 880 was too small for my big head.

Thoughts?

The k240 is actually a staple in he studio but I pretty much think it would suck at gaming. you really do want closed back for that. the pressure you get plus any leakage if it matters in your situation. however you should still not play any headphone too loud. you will be sorry later. my recommendation honestly would have been the dt880 pro. at GC you can haggle for like $80 it is a good deal and good for gaming. not too bad at anything else either. how did you find them too small? they are pretty big cans actually. if you like akg you could move up to k701 but it will not have the impact of a closed can. perhaps something from fostex but those are no bigger then the 880. quite frankly the 880 is bigger than the 240. if you mean the clamp just stretch them. unlikely they will break you can stretch the heck out of them for like one time each for a week and they will be loose as a goose. some like grados for gaming but I don't. luckily it is the cheaper ones that are good for that. if you can find a sony 7509 that may be to your liking. fits better and is a good headphone for gaming too. the thing is with gaming I am sure you want to hear the impact. I hate to admit this but I love a rapid fire gun sound. then in gta or nfs you want something a little more versatile. if you play fps closed back is the only way imo. just look for a potent closed back. driver at least 50mm. I am kind of leaning towards fostex for you but some of them are pretty expensive. they are all good for music too. the problem is if you are serious about classical you need not only a different kind of headphone than for gaming but probably something open and pretty expensive. maybe the k701 or whatever they make now in that range will be a good mix for you but it depends on if bothering people is a concern. if you use the 240 apparently not. I am going to probably say the k701 or that line as my ultimate idea for you. can do gaming and classical or anything well. it will not have the impact of a potent closed back but it has plenty. much better than the 600 or 650 imo. of course as always that is subjective. then the issue is if you want to spend that. I think those are at least 400 bucks.
