I've recently completed an AW-D3 USB DAC utilizing the BB PCM2706. Love the thing.

I'm thinking about dipping my feet into HDCD and was wondering if it would be possible to find a chip that is capable of taking a 192khz/24bit signal via USB and and convert that to I2S. Most importantly, one that I can just drop into my existing configuration.

AW-D3 = PCM2706 --> I2S ---> TDA1543

So guys, what are my options?

Thank you in advance.

There don't currently seem to be any 'integrated' solutions that can do this. The PCM270x is top of the line. TI also has the more flexible TAS1020A that we think would be able to do 96KHz/24bit I2S, maybe 192KHz. It would (will?) be a lot of work though as it requires firmware programming and much more complex circuit design. See the discussion here.

thanks for the reference, very interesting. It's too bad there isn't a complete commercial solution.

Um HDCD is 44.1/20 (?48?), and not 192/24. I doubt you'd see a noticable change with a different chip.

Now DVD-A is an entirely different matter.
