..i got my stax sr001 a month ago...when i was wondering which
one i should take....er- 4p or sr001......
at last...i chose the electrostatics..........why?....i don't know...
they are two quite different cans ....i just know i have no regrets now.....and....
i will still go to get the er- 4p....for.....acomplishment.... :p

ok...let's go back to the subject...upgrade....
Honetly speaking, when the first time i put on this ...in the ear speakers...i got a shock !! so i put it off and take a short breathe and on again.....
then.....u can c........it shocked me....again.....!!
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS....!!......IT COST'S ME $200?!
I MUST BE CRAZY AND OUT OF MIND RICH !!
OH !! MAN ....I MUST BE FOOLED ....i think at that MOMENT...
so i cleared my mind and asked my friend to take a ... TRY
then u can hear a suddenly burst out.....
OH MAN!! U R GOD DAMNLY RICH..ooh..IT'S POOR THAN MY SANSUI
EAR BUDS ( $5 ).....OH ....OH MAN.......!!
and u can tell a dark clouds flowing throught my mind....

then......what about now??.......
willllllll this be .....guys called.....outstanding.....in the ear speakers????? without doubt.........NO!!

so....i fix it all up.........without running in.......
(sorry ....for the designer.....i didn't ever hear the real matured
original sound this can should be......just can't wait...to...
FIX IT UP!! )

1. i changed the cables connected batteries and board....to
silver links......
2. changed the......poor looked..caps....to...rubycon black gate's
topest non polar caps.....
3. buit a power supply with lm317....DC 4v 500ma

and....for a unbearable...running time........for 10 hours a day
7 days a week.....till now..........

i can tell u........it...oh....SHE...is really a lovely....gal...oh....
in the ear speakers......really......without doubt.....
and i love her....now........and i will love her....till........??

Welcome to Head-fi .
I too have a stax 001 setup.
And have added a pair of decent conectors+ run the thing from
an outboard 5v nimh bat pack regulated to 4v.
This certainly improved things.
But I have not changed capacitors etc.

I would be interested in the details of your electronic mods.

Here is a pic of my physicaly moded 001 amp.

that is pretty much the most inconprehensible post that I have read that was still (evidently) in english.

I'm interested in the mods, but unfortunately I couldn't make heads or tails of what you were trying to say. Do you like the SR-001? Did the mods improve the sound?

Oi.

stax sr001 ii as people said ... got a roll- off treble.... beautiful
midrange...and deep (?) bass......with natural sound....
for me....i don't like the roll-off....and want a more detailed bass
of course keep the charming midrange so...i tried to make it my cup of tea.....
for the treble....
u can tell the designer use the AB resisters....
so the sound would be warm...and smooth....
i try to add some pure silver cables inside...to improve the
high range ... and changed some caps....
based on my experience use the black gate 's N type caps
which got a detailed and clear and wide range sound...
i changed the 1uf 50v ; 10uf 25v caps....
after a period of time's running in....
compared to my friend's stax sr001 ii.....without knife.....
these mods did make a big step...u can tell obviously....
on audiophile's specs....i do like the upgrades..of my personal
taste...
1. the treble 's roll off:
would no longer exsists....maybe still a little
but i think it's ok.....this helps the sound body to be substantial
and got a clear flame.....
and the space would be more natural.....more air.......
2. the bass:
a more detailed and deeper bass.....u can got a whole clear
vision....of sound...or music......
3. midrange:
saved...!! still be charming...and of course may be
kind of different from the original...koz the different caps...

so....
i got my own sound stax sr001ii.....so called
kikifish's sr001.....
i like it....my personal.....reserved.........sr001.....

the power supply....would be followed.....

kikifish...very e e cummings...
like moonlight...on the snow-covered lake...
your mods seem...
to make the music flow more...to your...liking...
and proud as can be...the creator,
no,
moderator of the sound...
you are.

however...your English...
fantastic for ROC...in many...if not all...ways,
a bit much for the unschooled...
in stream

of

consciousness writing.

At any rate. Sounds like you enjoy your mods. Cool.
Enjoy your rig and your eecummings world...welcome...
to...
head-fi...and to flowing...sound...like...water...on... ... ... ... rocks.

Just stop using those gaddam ANNOYING quadruple dots to end your sentences, and you'll be fine. They look dumb and they make it look like you're trying too hard to get some kind of weird-ass, poetic ghetto-flow going. You're supposed to use a single period (.) when ending sentences. Sometimes, if you're expressing excitement, you end sentences with an exclamation (!). Capiche?

I'll leave it up to everyone else to make fun of this one.

kikifish,

Please don't take offense. I was not suggesting that your English was unschooled. Rather, I was suggesting that the style in which you were writing was something called "stream of consciousness," a style popularized at the turn of the last century (still seems wierd to call 1900 the last century). And I was also suggesting that your style might be hard for some people to understand. It doesn't bother me at all. I was merely poking some harmless fun...Didn't mean to get anyone more upset about things.

ur physicaly moded 001 amp looks cool!
About the connectors,
I think that will do much help for more pure sound, right?
u use 001 with DA?
koz I use 001 with portable cd player, so i didn't change that part.
About the power supply,
I use the bat too, besides that , i use a voltage transformer to lower
the 110v to 6v AC , then adjust that to DC 4v with Lm 317( http://www.national.com)
The differences between bat and lm317:
IMHO, 317 gives a more detailed sound stage, and fresh space.
The sound range from bass to high will be more audio.
U can tell a deeper bass, clearer and extended high range .
So when I am home , I would use the 317.
That's my little exprience.
