Hi, Just a very quick impressions. Its weird because i cannot hear any "veil" most are talking about. Straight out of the box the sound signature was everything hd595 had but way way larger in extension.

Actually i feel hd650 plays even brighter, with much more "energy". Not sounding so hollow or plastic. I'm not sure if i believe burn-in, but damn, it sounds so sweet already (20 hours done).

Dunno how it compares if i had a "dedicated" amp, but i would believe i should hear sound more muddy if not having enough power, right?

I was little aftraid i would not get enough improvement with my equipment over the hd595... WOW i got it alright, the clarity, details, bass, treble extension and overall instruments body weight improved alot ! I dont find the sound any muddy or too dark, just very natural. (currently listening to "John Williams - Superman: The Movie" in flac format

Now i'm just afraid this is the beginning to the "REAL upgradis-madness " you all hd650 owners have in common by looking your rigs.

And i though i was safe because i managed to stay away from here about a half a year with my hd595 LOL !

After you have listened cans that dont have veil for some time, and then put HD650 back on, you might notice 'wow, where has the uppermids and lowertreble gone'. Easiest to notice with music that relies on heavily overdriven electric guitars. (which reside mostly in uppermids and lowertreble)

But that is the nature of those cans and without it, it wouldnt be Senn. I already noticed it with HD595 when I first heard them and when I even owned them.

I had both cans at one time and it is a big jump from the HD595 to HD650. I'm happy to hear that your quite happy with your cans. The HD650s have a beautiful soundstage.

Depending on the brand and can you should see an improvement from a HD595 to HD650, or SR60 to SR225. As most say, upgrade your cans first, than source and amp.

In regards to upgrading, I hear ya. You might start thinking of cables (which I feel should be last IMO) and getting a good amp to synergize with your HD650s. IMHO, I had the most improvement from my HD650 when I upgraded the source. Good luck on your headphone journey.

It all depends on how you look at it. Listen to the HD650 for a long time, and then switch to a can that doesn't have the so-called "veil", and they will sound exceptionally bright and peaky.

I have never heard the veil, therefore, for me, it does not exist.

Any way, congratulations johto, they really are a good can. I like them more than any other headphone I've heard, even the so-called "high end" cans.

The 650's are a big upgrade and you now have a top level headphone you can build a real high definition system around.

Very true. It all depends what one is used to, and/or what soundsignature simply matches ones ears. When I was just joined Headfi (and havent even heard the whole term ever in my life), and havent heard a single Grado and main cans were PX100 and K240S. On HD595 I noticed something was bit off in mids or highs, especially on guitars. My personal first experience of veil. I heard it, and it exist for me to this day. Heard a Grado shortly after, and see where it has led me.

But obviously Johto has found the sound that matches his/her ears! Congrats! I hope Senns would have worked for me, would have been MUCH cheaper for my wallet...
