Hmmmm. I'd like to do this, but the price is a bit much.

$275 for an extra 20GB is not worth it IMO. I'll wait till the 120GB ones come out

Hey now.

I have a 30 gig and it's WAY too small, it's a 5G too.

"Note that the 30GB upgrade will include a higher capacity battery and a new back for the iPod, as its size will be increased to that of an 80GB iPod. They offer a mail-in service as well. Be the hippest geek on your block!"

70 more gigs? For less than the price of a used ipod? Maybe for Christmas - and the price will be lower then too!

jahn, i'm not sure what used ipods you're looking at, but the 5.5G 80GB is $299 (the same price as upgrading your 30GB to 100GB) refurbished from apple with free shipping, so its actually cheaper.

For me, being a current 30gb 5.5 gen owner, this is actually pretty tempting.......headphones or more music????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very VERY tempting, especially as someone who doesn't even OWN an iPod yet LOL. Which brings me to my question....

Could Vinnie take this new 100gb drive and install it in a 4Gen iMod? If so, then I'd be REALLY tempted to take the plunge!!

Unfortunately, no. I asked him yesterday.

Can I ask what was the reason he gave you for not being able to do so?

Hi isamu,

The reason is because they use different connectors. Starting with the 5th generation iPods, they went with a ZIF (zero insertion force) connector and cable. The 4th Gen units use an ATA connector.

In theory, a "converter cable" of some sort should be able to do the trick. I'll have to look into this... especially if the 100GB (and 120GB Seagate drive that I'm patiently waiting for) is only offered with a ZIF.

Best regards,

Vinnie
