Hi guys,

I recently brought a pair of Denon AH-D1001 which make my Creative's seem pretty hollow and muddy in comparison. So i was looking to upgrade my IEM's to something a little better.

I listen to all types of music but mainly rock/pop, hip-hop, and house through an ipod classic

Also, having owned HD485 and Z-5500 i'm quite accustomed to that 'V' shaped signature so it would be nice to have a nice midrange for once. I've been looking at the SE530/IE7 but ideally if i can pick something up for under £100 that would be great (CX500, CX95, J-JAYS?)

Thanks in advance.

I guess the inevitable question now is , are the IE7's worth the extra £30? The budget is not really an issue considering that if it buy something 'cheap' now I'll most likely want to upgrade it 3 months down the line.

How would rate the IE7 compared to the SE530? I'm looking for something with great comfort/isolation (would be wearing them 6-8hours a day at work/train) and a fairly relaxed smooth sound signature (whilst i love my AH-D1001, they can be a tad bass heavy and ear-piecing (sibilance?) at times)

well i avent heard the 6 so i cannot comment on its other than its meant to the have more bass than the 7.

how would i rather the 7 against the 530? very very closely in terms of sound. the 530 is without question the better of the two but they have a similar sound signature, both are very smooth but i have on the vary rare song at volume encountered sibilance with the 7.

comfort on the 7 now is fine for me but i had a lot of issues to begin with, the fit on the 530 is fantastic.

isolation, the 7 is hmm so so about the same as the ep-630. isolation on the 530 is much much much better, no contest at all.

if you want a lot of isolation anything in the shure range should be suitable.

oh also the ety hf5 might be of interest for £80 on amazon and the klipsch custom 2 for £60 is a bargain and with some shure olives on the isolation is fantastic too

hey wat do u mean isolation on ie7 is the about the same as ep-630...i think the isolation on ep's suck...on a train, the bass is all gone, and i need high volume to block out noise completely (out of 80g ipod classic)..also at home i can even hear the ceilin fan if im not playing any music...i was about to buy the ie7 thinking isolation was poor but still gud...but this statement has made me rethink my decision...

erm the isolations is arround the same as the ep-630 but on no account should those things ever not be giving you bass by the truck load. the ep-630 are bass monsters, im thinking you might not have good fit on them.

anyway no the IE7 is not a high isolating IEM, if you want isolation the hf5, custom 2 or any shure will serve you far far better

Thanks for the reply mark2410, just wondering, out of the plethora of IEM's in your sig - which do you find most enjoyable to listen to/use the most often? and just to confuse matters further, whats the signature like on the hf5, custom 2?

well havent heard the hf5 but its supposed to be similar to the er4 but with a bit more bass. so in theory quite bright good mids but not lots of bass. it will be very isolating.

custom 2 is very balanced i think, nice mids nice lows alright highs. its just excellent value for money, for £60 i dont think anything else comes close that ive heard.

most often i guess id say i listen to the se530, most enjoyable erm im not sure it depends alot on what mood im in but possibly again the 530.

if i was to only have one IEM no ifs no buts it would be the 530, isolates sounds great, is very comfortable and everything sounds good on it.

IE7 and IE8, neither isolate well.

frankly ignoring the money id still go for the 7 if i was only to have 1 IEM. the 8 is just to much for my ears. dont get me wrong it sounds fantastic and has a huge wow factor but its quite tiring to listen to for very long. the 7 is much more balanced and smooth.

the 7 will allow you to relax the 8 smacks you round the face and screams listen to me or else.

however, if you get the 7 your more likely to wonder what your missing out on and want to upgrade, if you buy the 8 odds are you want be wanting to buy the 7 in a months time
