Hey I just received my Koss KSC-35 that I bought from Ebay (25$CAN shipped) and I just keep falling off my chair listening to music with them.

No they are not better than the HP-2, but for 25$CAN... Is this a joke?

At first I saw them and I tought I wasted 25$; crappy plastic headphone, koss headphones, weird purple wrapping, etc. But I just put them on my ears (which is a weird fit also) and plug my Creative Zen Vision:M.

I just can't still believe it. Those headphones give a damn good sound. I can almost compare the sound quality to the Alessandro MS-1 I had or the vintage Grado SR-80 I have. I'm almost certain they're better.

I was afraid they would lack bass (that's why I went the KSC35 way instead of KSC75, known for bass lacking) but I think it's just perfect. And also the soundstage... they got soundstage... Not a big one, but it's noticeable.

Anyway now I understand the KSC35/KSC75 hype.

If you find a cheap pair, buy it. If you have one, don't screw it.

I had the same response when I bought the "SportaPros" sight un-seen. I use them with my Cowon G3 portable, and can't believe how good this combination sounds. I would much rather use "SportaPros" for portable use than any of the low-end Grados.

I know they are discontinued - did you get them used?

I hope you are kidding about better than the HP-2 ... I have compared both and the KSC35 (both modded and unmodded) is a decent headphone but pales when compared to pretty much any of the big guys.

The bass is all right, if not a bit smeary sounding. The mids have no glaring flaws to my ears. But the real problems are with the upper mids and treble. They have a thin sound to them and can sound harsh and grating on my ears. Also when directly compared to very high end cans, going back to the KSC35 I easily notice a veil over the midrange through highs. Something that does not happen with even the current SR-XXX line of grado headphones.

EDIT:
I misread your post, you said they are NOT better than the HP-2 , sorry about that

You are correct they do easily compare and possibly beat headphones such as the SR60, MS1, etc...

In my opinion the bass of the KSC-35 is a bit too strong. I modded mine with the coin-hole mod on the pads and like them better after that. Still, I liked them how they sounded when unmodded with the slightly stronger bass. Modded or unmodded, they are simply awesome!!! Definitely the best-value in Headphone-dom bar none.

it's great to see the ksc35 still getting credit after all these years and even now that they're discontinued. i liked them so much that i also have two pairs, the last one just in case something happened to the first pair.

not only does cutting a hole in the foam help the bass but adding a 75ohm resistor and recabling also does wonders for its sound.

If you have them hang on to them! I had a pair of KSC35 which I liked better than my KSC75, which I like a lot, so that tells you my high opinion I have of them. Anyway, my KSC35's broke and I sent them back to Koss for a new pair on their lifetime warranty, and they sent me back a pair of KSC75, with no explanation, just the other cans. So, once they are gone, THEY ARE GONE!
Take care of them, and make 'em last!

Actually... the Portapro and Sportapro both use the exact same drivers as the 35, but the porta has blue drivers which is ugly, sporta is black just like the original 35, and its cheap.

Same exact thing happened to me. I, however, bought a new pair of KSC35 directly from Koss several months ago (when they were still available) and have been happy with them since.

FWIW, I didn't really mod them except I changed the pads and the clips to the KSC75 versions because I felt I liked the thicker foam and the fit of the KSC75 clips more than the KSC35's.

In fact, if there are any people that still want to buy a pair of KSC35 straight from Koss.com (BTW, the version I got was not retail packaged but instead came with a case and warranty card inside a little plastic bag), follow these steps:
  • Go to Koss's website: http://www.koss.com
  • Paste this into your address bar: Quote:

    javascript:LaunchBWindow('/koss/baskets.nsf/(05Add+to+BasketN)?openagent&ID=KSC35')

  • Hit enter.
  • You should now see a pop-up showing a pair of KSC35's in your cart priced at $29.99.
  • Use code ANNIVERSARY for another 20% off your order.
  • Checkout and enjoy!

NOTE: This may not work. It worked for me a while ago, and I'm under the impression that they still have a few of these left in their factory. Your mileage may vary...

I have a pair that I have never used, because I could never figure out how to put them on!

I must be doing something wrong - they are so incredibly uncomfortable that I have never even listened to any music through them. Brand new from Koss, too....
