looking for some suggestions on some earbuds or IEMS that sound good unamped. ive had superfi 5 pros before as well as yuin pk1s, i used them both amped and was very happy with them, but i decided that carrying the amp around is just TOO bulky for what i used it for so i sold it all off. im looking to spend something in the 100-200 range preferably, although used is ok. some things ive considered so far, perhaps a westone, or the freQs (ive heard mixed opinions on these, but mostly good i think?). im open to any other options, my main concern is specifically something that sounds good with strictly UNamped usage. not sure if musical taste matters but i listen to a wide range of rock etc so something with a solid midrange and preferably a bit of bass kick would be nice. shoot me any suggestions!

I have the ER 4P also with a touch and it sounds horrid. No bass or midrange at all loud vocals just bad. The touch im convinced needs earphones with some colouring. I would look at something along the lines of Super Fi5 or Westone UM2 or Shure SE 310.
Dont get me wrong i listen to my 4P's daily but with a Sony 816. That combo is really strong. The Ety's must have a custom EQ Flat will not get it done. This is JMO from trial and error.

You should get the freQ and tell us what you think. There can't really be much that bad about freQs for that price and specs and positive feedback.
I don't know why you sold the yuin pk1 b/c they're supposed to still sound better than pk2 unamped (unless you might consider getting the pk2s).

I would vote for the UE Super.fi Pro's (which I have, along with the Triple.10's), or for just a little bit more the FreQ custom IEM's (which I don't "yet" have, but want to!).

You may want to consider IM716's. They have great sound, can be had for a relatively cheap price considering the sound quality (often compared to Ety Er4's), and have something that is very useful, specifically for the Ipod Touch...an inline volume control. The only problem is that I have found them hard to power with the Ipod Mini. Sometimes having to put the volume up close to 100%. Perhaps someone who has them, along with an Ipod Touch, can comment on the Touch's ability to drive them.

you might be able to find a pair of shure e500s used for around $200. They are incredible unamped from an iPod, and there are many many other head-fi members that will agree with me. They are considered an IEM that doesn't need an amp to sound good with a decent source. I tried amping my iPod with a tomahawk for use with my e500s and could not hear any difference.

k so just listening to my friends e4c unamped out of my touch and there's a fair amount of background noise audible. They sound a little too detailed, low impedance, treble heavy for regular unamped use. I'm thinking something a bit higher impedance might help eliminate the background noise and grainyness. How would something like the q jays be in contrast? Any suggestions?
