Anyone with the UM3X listen to hiphop/triphop/electronic/downtempo where sub bass is an important and integral component of the music?

One thing I like my Triple.Fi for is the bass response. The sub bass hits deep and is pretty nice. There's no mid bass hump in kick drums or basslines to interfere with the music, which I found the IE8 did, even though the sub bass with those was the best I've ever heard in an IEM.

I'm thinking about buying them from a seller on eBay that has em for $379, but someone said he accepts offers for $350. Just wondering if it's worth the jump from the Triples... if there's still going to be that nice bass presence with them.

not yet mate; but I will (hopefully in a few days) as I listen to a great deal of that style of music; in fact massive attack is a reference CD of mine that I use to test out all of my equipment. id watch it with ebay sellers though if I were you. maybe check out with powd3rh0und if they are westone dealers before buying. from reports the UM3X goes lower than W3 but with slightly less quantity and maintains a fairly flat response across the frequency range; which sounds perfect for our style of music. not to forward a midrange and enough highs to get great high hats. the TF10 for me was just a little too empty in the mids and I found westone 3 with UM56 to be near perfect, but just a smidge too peaky. someone will chime in with specific experience for you i'm sure; i'l be back

Cool, I look forward to reading your impressions.

I contacted powd3rh0und regarding the warranty and eBay sellers, hopefully he replies with good news.

, I listen to some less mainstream stuff than that as wel of course; but the quality of production on massive attack makes it great for testing equipment as its very demanding in the bass, but also good for testing midrange detail (female/male vocal) and soundstage/layering. also will use Goldfrapp, justice, daft punk, Trentemoller, Hybrid see anything you like??

Triple Fi Pro and UM3X are the two IEM's I currently have. I love Triple Fi Pro except for the veiled midrange problem. I would consider the bass of UM3X equally abundant as TFPro but it hits a little harder on impact (slam) but all in all pretty similar bass-wise. Main difference between the two is the superior midrange of UM3X and the treble is also a little wetter where treble of TFPro is kind of dry and airy which actually gives it that smooth presence but perhaps a bit unnatural. They are both smooth but UM3X is a little more natural sounding.

I'm pretty much convinced I'll like them... I'm just having a difficult time finding a deal on them...

All the coupon codes I try on earphonesolutions.com don't seem to work.

woow, man, you are changing IEM so fast. One moment I saw in IE8 thread, the next thing I knew you were in Tri fi 10 pro ship already. Not to mention you start thinking of UM3X now....lol, I envy you

just let you know, I am getting UM3X soon as a currently IE8 owner. Tmr or the day after today, UM3X will be on my hand. May be I could let you know how it compares to IE8. Shame IE 8 is gone today already. I could make the comparsion based on my memory

hah, don't envy me... it's not like i have a disposable income.. i just sell one to pay for the other.. and each time i do it i lose a bit of money... with all of these exchanges i'm probably out at least $100... but dammit i want something i'm happy with! is that so much to ask??

I dont think you'll have too much luck with coupons with UM3X, its brand new and westone isnt often discounted by official resellers. you might find a small discount, but nothing substantial

well earphone solutions had a $30 coupon, but it's expired... they have a few different codes for 10% off, but none of them are working, despite them saying 'on any order'...

Unless you're in a hurry to get a hold of a pair, I'd just wait until some sort of deal pops up. At least that's what I'm planning on...

I'm very curious about the results of the UM3X with this type of music, as well. It's got to where it's either the UM3X (if it is, indeed, worthy of the initial praise) or bust for me. I'm tired of compromising with universal IEMs. There's something 'wrong' with every one of them. The new westone is the first and only one that has me intrigued.

That being said, there's been a clear evolution over the last couple of years, and if there isn't a good match for me as of right now, I'm optimistic in the next couple of years that IEM's in general will have evolved to the point where the trade-offs won't irritate me as much-

Well I've got mine now and I can honestly say these sound really frickin good with the above mentioned genres. Some dnb doesn't sound great, but better than any other IEM I've tried to play that music with... so all in all, I think these are winners.

Great comparison! Gives and excellent idea of the UM3X for someone familiar to the TF10.
