Hi, I'm new to the forums here and currently looking to get a different sound signature.

I currently own a Westone UM2 and I adore them. Their mids and highs were excellent. On some songs that had a xylophone segment, the UM2's made them absolutely sparkle!! But sadly, I found their bass to be lacking and always left me wanting more. So after a year owning them, I'm in the market for something new.

My genre of music is purely instrumental. The bulk of it comes from original soundtacks, specifically Japanese OSTs.

To get a taste of what I listen to:

Fly High - Fukigen na Gene OST

Tsubomi - Tokyo Tower OST 2006

Joe Hisaishi - Laputa Castle is the sky

YouTube - Joe Hisaishi & New Japan Philharmonic Dream World Orchestra

Joe Hisaishi - Summer

YouTube - Joe Hisaishi Live - Summer ( from Kikujiro )

Now that you have a taste of what I listen to, I need an IEM that gives the bass a nice "umph" without muddy-ing the mids, and highs. Basically an IEM that does the bass in the first sample justice without being overpowering and will also do a decent job on nonbassy tracks.

I've been looking at the Sennheiser IE series and from what I've been able to glean from this forum they might fit the bill.

Does anyone out there have a UM2 and an IE7 that they can compare? A side by side comparison would be nice.

Last thing, my budget is around 200-250 CAD and if there is an IEM that is lower than that price range, I'm all up for it.

Got a lossless file?
Not that I'm anal about codec, just that when you go high end the biggest difference will
be that IEM is no longer bottle-necking your audio system. So feeding them good sound
and they will turn out good sound, albeit somewhat modified.

im in the process of "try before you buy". So not all the music I like is lossless. That's the best i have at the moment.

However, one lossless sample for your enjoyment:

Spirit - Team Medical Dragon OST

So you like the UM2 sound signature but want more bass but not at the expense of clear mids and highs? The UM3x does all of these things very well.

um3x is way too expensive for me.

Does anyone have both UM2 and IE7 and can comment on their differences?
