I finally got my UM2's today, so incredibly psyched! I'm gonna do multiple posts because of the burn-in period, but I figured I could give first impressions. For any perspective buyers out there, the UM2's are a damn good pair of IEM's and worth the $257.71 I paid for them (I didn't know about the special deal on earphonesolutions.com).
Bass is very well defined, deep and punchy. People who are bass heads will love these once EQ'd. Midrange is great and the highs are as well. The very highest highs can be harsh, but only rarely and depending on how loud they are.
Isolation is SUPERB. I can't hear anything with these in and I finally feel that It's just me and the music...no interference. I also had my first eargasm a few moments ago. I was listening to Roads live in NYC by Portishead and I truly honestly felt as if I was in the auditorium with the crowd and band. I acutally got a few goosebumps, lol. These IEM's really are that good. Period. Music now just seems so powerful and "in your face". I heard a comparison between the e2c and e5c a while back saying that the e2c's would put you at the back of the auditorium maybe even in the lobby and the e5c would put you second row. Well I feel that the UM2's put you second row. Also, I'm aware that I made a good sized jump quality wise from the e2c to the UM2, but the quality of the phones is just so much better (good ol American engineering). The main improvement build wise is with out a doubt the cord. The e2c cord is weighty and at times can acutally feel as if it's pulling the buds out of your ears. With the UM2's its so so much differet. The cord is thin, unobtrusive and weights nothing.
I also now believe that the UM2 was meant to be with the x5. They match up so well and there are so many EQ settings that you can mold the sound to whatever you prefer. If you like metal, rap techno (bass heavy) these babies have you covered without a doubt. I don't have too much jazz or classical, so someone else may have to comment on that matter. But these two piece of equipment together just compliment each other so well. I really don't know if i need an amp because the x5 drives the UM2's extremely well.
I'll post some more once they get burned in, but i hope this helps those who are debating whether these are worth it. YES they are worth it. Especially now since earphonesolutions has that great deal. Don't miss out on a great opportunity!
