which one of them is better overall in detail and resolution if i am getting them at same price.

i dont want those typical bassy earphones...need more detail so i can leave my hd205 at home.

getting both for $55 btw.

well someone is selling his used... although he ll give me spare earfoams..i plan to get new earfoams for them.

I am afraid that UM1 ia your "typical bassy earphone".

EX85 is more neutral, bass is a little light, isolates badly. UM1 is more coloured, darker, bassier and has better isolation. I can't remember what is the detail like on the UM1, EX85 has reasonable detail level for the price, but I doubt any of them would have significantly more detail than HD205, if not worse. Basically you get what you paid for.
