Someone has offered me Westone UM1's (bought a month ago, used for 2 weeks he says) for about $55 USD. Is this a good deal? What are the risks of buying IEM's used and what should I look out for? Cheers

I paid about double for mine and I had them for over a year or so. I would buy them again for that price absolutely. You will not be sorry. If you don't like them let me know........ GREAT DEAL

As long as you get some feel as to the seller being legit, $55 is a great price for a very good product. You would be very happy

It sounds legitimate...I think. The picture the seller has shown is that of the new black UM2 taken straight from www.earphonesolutions.com but he has said that he can send a picture of the actual package he is selling if required so I will probably ask him to do that. I think the incorrect pic is just a lack of knowledge about the different UM models and I guess they do look the same in your ear.

Have him write his name and date on a piece of paper and put it somewhere in the pic of the packaging. That seems to be what a lot of people do around here to show that the product is in fact theirs and not just some picture they pulled off of the internet somewhere. If it is legit, grab them. If you don't like them, you should be able to easily sell them here at that price plus a few bucks for shipping and not lose a dime in the process.

Yea I originally did not want to buy used, but then again I was not expecting someone to sell used at half price. And they haven't even been used that much apparently. The reason I am willing to risk buying used in this case is becasue the seller is local for me (in New Zealand) so it sort of gives me a greater sense of security than buying used from the US.

I found this review which basically says that the Shure E2c and Ety ER6i are a better choice than the UM1 http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/inde...;pid;1605;pt;1

Check it out and see what you make of it. Is there any truth in it or just lies? By the way, the poll i started a few days back for entry level IEM's is showing over 50% of people voted for the UM1 (other options were Shure E2c, Ety ER6i, UE super.fi 3)

You'll find that everyone has their own preference, so you need to take every review for what it is: one person's opinion. Personally, I've owned both the UM1 and the E2 and I prefer the UM1 as an entry-level IEM.

It shouldn't. All three are designed to run off of portable devices. They may improve a little with an amp, but will otherwise run perfectly fine unamped.
