How is it on the sibilance front? I have the HFI-700s, and I love the sound signature and the S-Logic. But the sibilance is killing me. Any song the remotely rides hard in the treble is almost unlistenable, its painful. I'm thinking the reason for this is that since these are from the consumer line, it's designed for listing to MP3s out of bad sources, so it boosts the treble to give the illusion of more fidelity. I'm guessing the combination of the open design and better drivers would help iron out the signature Ultrasone sharpness.

PS: Damn this place. First post in a few months. You think you can leave it, but you cant

I have both, and I don't think the HFI700dvd that I own is sibilant. If you think yours is sibilant, and they have over 200-300 hours on them, you might not like the 2500, but read on, there is hope.

My PL2500 were slightly sibilant in the first 24 hours, and I haven't heard any since, although the highs were still a little sharp until after 76 hours when they got dull until about 85 hours of use or so, and then returned to normal.

Break-in is suppose to be 300-400 hours on the 2500. I think the 2500's highs are smooth now, at 120 hours, but many people say they can't get used to the treble. I can still hear 20-20K at my last hearing check in September (45yr old).

My Edition 9 are a different animal - they sound similar but very different, and the highs are like butter, and not like the knife. The good news is the Edition 9 sound good with the Tomahawk, as do the SE530, so you wont have to change your source or amp.

So, I see that as the only way to enjoy the Ultrasone Sound Signature.

Not. Actually, kwkarth here has done some Proline 650 mods that include different fabrics in front of and behind the drivers, plus dynamat inside, that makes them smooth and sweet. He also did some toning down of his PL2500 with different fabrics in front of the driver, and cut away small bits of fabric as his PL2500 burned-in. Search for his posts.
