Ultrasone DJ1/DJ1Pro Thread

i have the old school dj1 pros; second pair, actually. i also have a pair of pro750's. i still don't understand how anyone could call these bass monsters. now, if you put the 750 pads on the dj pro, then we're talking bass!

I personally don't think that the 780's look worse. The Pros actually look a bit toylooking to me. I don't think either looks good actually, but the 780's have a more stylized look as opposed to a toyish look. That has nothing to do with the SQ I'm sure.

Ive heard that the dj1pro is bright and more similar to the proline 550s and the dj1s are dark sounding. Any truth to this?

Actually the specs and drivers looks to be the same on the pro 550 and the dj1pro... I wonder if they are the same headphone but with different looks and accessories designed for different buyers

This sort of shows how headfiers go for higher end models in brands

a lot of the lower prices can's are actually hidden gems. a example at least for me was buying the ms1 and then buying the sr225 which was twice as much and thinking the details and sound of the ms1 was better for my taste for half the price.

i would not be surprised to find more such gems but honestly unless your a true blue addict with plenty of funds, it's hard to try all the possible combinations and headphones hehehe

I would be interested in these if I knew more.

I will probably get the dj1pro in 2 months or so. I will report on how they sound myself but as of now I guess this thread is going to stay lonely. I will compare them to the Audio Technica AD2000 and how things sound in reality. They will probably dissapoint in those areas cause after all even the ad2ks are more rolled off on top and aggressive sounding than reality. I at least hope that their sound will give me pleasure as my main "bring it around" cans. I got akgk81djs for that before after reading markls rave reviews but they never really made me enjoy my music with their dark and muddy sound.

Rickio, The ms1s were actually ok for me but the lack of deep bass and soundstage were my main turn offs. If I get a can to use in noisy places, all the frequencies have to be able to cut through the background noise

I was just comparing the ms1's to the sr225's and obviously they were not my ultimate can or i would not be buying and trying more hehehe

i agree for some uses they just do not fit and for portable use. i don't think so but probably someone uses them that way hehehe

Got info from The Mick that the dj1pros are the same can as the proline 550s except that they are tuned with a different balance. A guy from headroom also told me that the dj1pro has a snappier and less muddy bass than the pro550s.

By the way here are some links that IQEM gave me on these cans and other ultrasones.

why you didn't put HFI580 on your list ? i thought HFI580 are less on the price than DJ1pro...and YES, i have heard em...
wink.gif
i test it A/B (head to head) with my DJ1 (400hours burn-in), and HFI580 (fresh out from the box) easily beat the DJ1 on every aspect...

so, it's time to sell the DJ1 now (for me)...
