I don't think that the RS-1 can be beaten as a rock headphone, however I have only compared it to the GS-1000 out of the headphones on that list. From reading around on head-fi, I have yet to hear a headphone recommended more frequently than the RS-1 for Rock music.

PS1 from me, but I do believe that all of them have their own status, cos, for example, with the right system and good quality record GS1000 will eat PS1 for breakfast.

ps Never tried ED9 or L3000, so the question is still open...

Totally OT but is the L3000 much better than the W5000 to be priced at some 2800 US$? That's a helluva lot for a headphone; what is so special about this one other than they only made 500 pieces?

It's up to your ears to decide whether they're worth it for you. It's an exclusive, limited-edition phone and the Connolly leather obvoiusly adds to the price somewhat. Not to mention the funky suede box.

They're a bit rich for me but I'd still love to hear a pair one day

What sets the L3000 apart from all other headphones is its visceral speakerlike bass -- it has this in spades. Like no other, not even the PS-1 (which just overly emphasizes midbass). Everybody should at least have the chance to hear one.

I think the D7000s will be a default member of that list before too long. They serve up some seriously stunning bass and have brilliantly handled most rock records I have listened to.

edit: Oh yeah, the L3000 probably take the crown but I would love to have both at the same time to compare. I also think the RS1, GS1000, and HP-1000's all do rock quite nicely.

Of the listen ones I would say the RS1.

The Grado RS-1 is the one I listen to for rock. Of the headphones on the list, however, the only other one I've heard is the GS-1000.
