Ultimate Ears' "Artists to Watch" Section (With a Tyll Hertsens Mention)

I dig Ultimate Ears' "Artists to Watch" section, and have picked up some really good recommendations from it. I posted about it once when they first added that section of their site, and have been a big fan of it since, checking it every couple of weeks for updates. They've added a lot more artists since, and continue to add them regularly.

Last year, my co-worker and fellow Head-Fi'er joe got me into Rilo Kiley, which is one of the "Artists to Watch" from a month or two ago. Recently, Ani DiFranco was also featured, and I've been a fan of hers for a long time. Midlake was also featured in the last month or two, and their album The Trials of Van Occupanther is fantastic, regularly spinning on my playlist. Through "Artists to Watch" I was introduced to the music of Jonathan Coulton. I know there are a lot of code monkey Head-Fi'ers, and if you cats don't crack up when listening to Coulton's "Code Monkey" you must be completely devoid of the ability to laugh. There's a cool Chinese band called P.K. 14 featured. Since P.K. 14 sings in Chinese, I can't understand a word of it, but they're a fun listen (I really dig the second of two featured tracks by them).

Oh, and where is Tyll Hertsens mentioned? Check out the section on the band Pinback.

Check out all the "Artists to Watch." Props to Ultimate Ears for promoting artists many of us might otherwise never hear.

Tyll is a rockstar! Well almost, nice writeup. Have been a fan of the Ultimate Ears, ever since trying out a friends setup.

For anyone who has been a fan of Midlake for long, one would probably realize that Van Occupanther is CRAZY hard to find on vinyl. However, this week Bella Union (their record label) released it on vinyl again. It is UK so the exchange rate kicked my arse, but I consider this the best album of 2006 and in my top ten records of all time.

I browse UE Artists To Watch off and on, but have spent most of this morning with their player just running from top to bottom. There are certainly some great bands/artists there.

Im really liking Midlake, Charlotte Martin and Vendetta Valentine.

So much music, so little money

Rilo Kiley's old stuff is amazing. The new album is completely different and incredibly incredibly lame.
