Hi guys,

I'm about to send my order in for a pair of UE 10 Pros and would like to find out a few things before I part with 900USD..

I currently use a RWA 4G iMod 60GB > XIN SuperMicro IV > UE Triple.fi 10pros

My first pair of IEMs was a Super.fi 5pro and I absolutely adore the UE sound signature i've heard so far. That being the case, is the UE10 Pro what i'll be looking for? A friend who owns a pair tells me that the UE10 Pro is like a Triple.fi with better seperation: is this true?

A good thing to mention here is that i'm 16 years old and still a growing teenager, will my ear shape change drastically such that the UE10 will have to be remolded again and again?

Also, does the UE10 Pro go well with my XIN SuperMicro? I really really don't want to go "perfect amp" hunting all over again =x

Thanks for the advice in advance!

I have the UE-10s and the UE-11s. I purchased the 10s over the 11s, thinking they would be a better fit, but was ultimately disappointed and had to go back for the 11s. There is absolutely no circumstance outside of studio monitoring where the 10s are better than the 11s. If you like the Triple.fi, you will love the 11s. The Triple.fi and 11s sound more similar to each other than the Triple.fi and the 10s. Seriously, save up the additional $250 and get the 11s!

I really wouldn't spend that much money on custom IEM's at that age just in case. $900 is a hell of an investment, and you don't even want to slightly regret it maybe 2 years down the line.

Have you thought of possibly getting livewires for now, putting the rest of the money away and let it gather interest until you are 20 say, and then buy the best custom IEM's you can at that point. God knows how many armatures they might have! But until then you would have a great set of IEM's that didn't cost the world, so if they eventually don't fit so nice you won't feel so bummed.

Agree'd! You would better benefit starting up a home setup, using your iMod as a source.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, I am seriously reconsidering my decision about the UE10s

It's like I told my dad so many times...if you're debating on it for this long, then it is obvious you won't be satisfied with it when you get it.

Iirc (If I Recall Correctly), your ear canal never stops growing and shifting and whatnot. But it's after a certain age that the process slows down considerably.

My daughter is deaf and has a hearing aid in one ear. She needs to get fitted about once every 6 months (she is 5). It is my understanding that in her teens it will need changed once every year or so and after her 20s it will be once every couple of years (but honestly I don't believe she will have a hearing aid another year as it will be replace with an implant). Either way its not that hard or long to get it done.

For the money, since your ear canal is still changing... I would get the livewires ($250+molds), QJays ($180), and Westone UM2s ($300). Then you'll have the opportunity to listen to all and personally decide what sound signature you actually prefer. I forget who wrote it (started the California dreamin Livewires thread), but I think someone actually said they prefered the Livewires over their UE Customs. That may not be the typical review, but it is all personal preference, and could be yours.

I myself like the UE sound signature, but I have no idea if I actually prefer one of the others as I have not heard them.

Diversify your experience and THEN plunk down the change for the perfect customs. You'll always have an eager audience in the FS forum to pick up the phones you decide against.

and as a side note: I thought I saw it is only $60 + molds to update the UE Customs... not that much considering the initial purchase price. Seems low though, might be wrong.

If the 11's sound like the Triple-Fi's then I say stick with the 10's. I have 10's but have never heard the 11's but I have heard the Triple-Fi's.

The 10's are very neutral and revealing and I use them constantly when mixing, mastering or remastering. They are essential for me.

If you want to save some $$$ and get some top notch headphones - get the Shure SE530's (E500's). They are cheaper than the 10's and have some great sound.

Get the 10's later on in life when you ear canal stops growing.

I've auditioned the E530s,UM2s,Q-jays,UM1,Super.fi 3s..
Almost all of the universal fit IEMs available, but I still like my triple.fis the most =] Which is why the next logical upgrade for me would be custom sleeves for my triple.fi or the UE10 pros..

Or the westone 3, which is taking forever to come.
