Hi everyone. I'm still pretty new to the audiophile world so I need your guy's help.

I just got myself a 5th Gen 80gig iPod this week a long with UE Super.fi 3. While the sound on these are pretty good, I can't imagine what the higher models are like. So I'm thinking of returning them & go after the big boys.

So for those who've tried them both, is the Triple.fi worth double the cost? $$$ is not that big of an issue but I don't want to spend more if the quality isn't too significant.

I listen to pretty much everything. Classical, rap, pop & rock...etc.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've had the super.fi.5's for about a couple of months now, and I'm more than satisfied with them. I stepped up from the sony ex71's though, so I really don't have any other quality earbuds to compare them too. They have a warm, but detailed sound; I definitely feel like they opened up and improved in sound over the first couple of weeks that I owned them. I listen to a large breadth of music, depending on my mood, everything from classical to hip-hop. They play classical music very well, but still have the kick to handle hip-hop with ease.

I'd say the only downside is that when paired with a 5g 80 gig iPod, you will likely hear a noticeable amount of white noise generated by the iPod's internal amp. I have returned two 80gig iPods just to get one that had a tolerable amount of white noise. It really isn't an issue unless you are listening to classical or low volume music. It is an issue that you will likely have with any high-end IEM with virtually any consumer digital music player. I'd say the improvement in detail and over sound quality is worth it though.

Also, the super.fi.5's will not necessarily be "twice" as good as the super.fi.3's. There is a general rule of diminishing returns with many products, and it definitely applies to IEM's. There is no question that the super.fi.5's will sound better than the 3's, and that the triple.fi's will sound the best, but triple.fi's won't likely sound 4 times better than the 3's. In the end it's all a matter of preference, generally I've heard that the more you pay, the better the instrument separation and stereo imaging gets. I spent a great deal of time researching my buds before I got them, so this is just information I gathered from reading different threads in this forum as well as looking at different rating sites.
