For my first DIY amp I plan on building an "uber-RA1", with a few key changes in design. I decided on the RA1 because simplicity to me is dead sexy. I am a big believer in Ockams Razor.

The simpler. The better.

Anyway...the RA1 would probably run better on 24 Volt....instead of the normal 18V. So does anyone know of any 12 Volt batteries (12*2)?

By the way...I am planning on using the OPA627. Anyone see a problem with that?

THANK YOOUUO!

Ya...I agree.

Once I build it I will give it a name

And unlike "CHA47" or "META42" I won't name it after myself. That is FAR too boring

except many people have already built opa627 based amps in a non-inverting configuration.

i'm not sure if i agree with that entirely. and i'm not sure why you would call the ra-1 'simple,' (unless you mean, simple to build) since the opamp is already chock full o' parts. if you really want things to be simple you could take a single transistor running in class A. now that's simplicity.

just for the hell of it try the op-amp in the inverting configuration.

Don't worry aboutthe polarity at the headphones , so many stages fromperformance to CD you have no idea what the actual correct polarity is .

OP-amps sound better inverting. Why ? No clue but they do

What do ya mean by inverting?

I know op-amps can invert OR NOT invert a wave...but what is the difference sonically? Waht changes do I have to make to construction?

To make an opamp inverting, connect the wires that went to its positive input to its negative input, and vice versa.

Czilla, you should probably start with a very basic Cmoy or perhaps the RA-1 without any changes as your first amp. I know you're eager to build something totally new, but it's good to start slow so you don't get super frustrated fast if things don't work out with your very first modified design.
