Just spotted U2 Remastered versions of Boy, The Joshua Tree, October, Under a Blood Red Sky. And War Original Master Recordings.

I have the CD's of the original releases. Are these newer versions improved in sound quality? I think a couple of mine are mono, and sound incredibly flat and dull.

I picked up Boy & Joshua Tree remasters, having both original CD presses as well. Is there a difference? For the most part yes but I would say it is a not significant improvement. I think only so much can be done with the original studio recordings without butchering the soundscape. 'Bullet the Blue Sky' sounds awesome, tho'.

I also have the WAR OMR pressed by MFSL (purchased probably 13 years ago?) which still holds up very well. I would recommend them if the price is right.

I own J-tree and the unforgetable fire on mobile fidelity gold remasters these were a significant improvement over the originial. The remasters released recently actually are better than the mofi's. The difference is not minor and will vary depending on your equipment. J-tree has a second disc which has some excellent songs. If you are a fan try one, I implore you

This is some of the best sounding stuff CD's can offer the sound is on par with the JVC releases of hell freezes over and Brothers in arms

The newer remasters are a significant improvement over the original CD releases in terms of sound quality. The better your rig, the more you'll get out of them. I personally prefer the MFSL remasters for War, Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree, but that is a matter of taste.

I'd be surprised if any of your U2 CDs were mono, even if they sound crappy and flat.

I bought War on vinyl when I was 12 (when it was first issued). One of my first records, what a memory. I listened to that for about 15 years before picking up the original CD release, and then bought the new remaster about a month ago. I'm impressed enough with the new CD that I might think about picking up October and Boy as well.
