I was just browsing through the Headphile website and noticed the item listed in the title on the One Only Sale page. I wonder how they sound, or why someone would even do that.

perhaps blown cd3k drivers, and a pair lying about? A frankenstein experiment?

Just as well, both are foward sounding drivers, it makes more sense then having like hd600 drivers in there ; )

I have noticed that grados sound god-awful when you place your hands near the outside of the drivers.

I was pretty darn close to buying them, but that issue made me a bit nervous. Care to comment on the sound? What I was basically looking for was more comfortable grados with isolation, how do they hold up in that regard?

Well i bet wood cups sound better than flesh cups

But seriously, a closed can that sounds like a Grado is the grail for alot of folks, I'd love to hear the answer too.

I agree that if you cover them with your hands on stock Grado cups they sound bad. These aren't Grado cups, obviously. The enclosure their in now bodes well to multiple different drivers. To answer your question, to me these sound better than stock 225's & 225 woodies... More bass fullness, soundstage and the comfort, ahhhhhhh.... without CD3K extreme highs. Isolation is the same as CD3K's, maybe a tad better with the woodies. Quite a sweet hybrid IMO...

Such a can exists, and it goes by the name of A900.

Grado has a beautiful midrange with excellent impact, while ATs are known for nasal midband. I've owned the A1000, and A100ti but those two do not sound like Grado.

The HD600 sound terrible when you place your hands over the back of the drivers. Larry's HD6xx gone woody sound amazing. Larry works some serious magic with these headphones. The SR225 gone woody are -INSANE- they destroyed the RS-1's handily. I have full faith in Larry's ability to modify headphones. Both sonically, and aesthetically. This man's a genius.

/just sayin'.

Are you sure it's not in your head or you just prefer SR225s? Those aren't supposed to change the sonics at all.

Definitely not. Please read the impressions thread for the Seattle meet. Many of us especially Xtreme4099 and I are very familiar with the SR225 sound. The SR225 gone woody was significantly better. I suspect it because of the lengthened chamber, and the increased hardness of the wood over the MS-Pro / RS-1. They sounded phenomenal.

I thought the woodie mod was only cosmetic and didnt affect sonics. Maybe we are talking of different woodie models/versions then. I don't know how many different ones there are.
