"tweaking" a pcdp?

You could always paint the edges of your disc green. Or skeletonize the CDP case and paint it funky colors.

Just kidding. There's really not too much you can do to a PCDP. Take it apart and pretty much everything is SMD. If your d-ej715 has an optical out, you could hook it up to a portable DAC. I've found vast improvement in PCDP+ commericial DAC compared to PCDP itself.

Portable DAC's are pretty rare though. Best known is probably the Ack!dAck. More transportable than portable. There's a few DIY DAC's you could run off battery power. Try headwiz. Last thing you can try is putting together battery packs to run small commericial DAC's like the DAC-in-the-box. Likewise, its more transportable than portable.

AOS's piccolo and sostenuto-1 are two nice portable dacs. The PACE (piccolo+PPA) is less portable, but is supposed to be great. They're all found at www.aoselectronics.com

And as for modding, try the DIY forum.
