I have always wanted to have a wooden headphone stand. So one day when I was operating in "cheap ace" mode (which is my normal operating mode by the way), I picked up some wood stuff in the crafts section of a thrift store.
Left to right: a wooden crafts stick of some sort, nice grain hardwood, possibly walnut; a wooden bowl, again with nice grain; a nice pepper/salt shaker, oak?
The bowl was $0.59, the shaker $0.99, but there wasn't a price sticker on the craft stick so the store lady ripped me off.... "$1.99, no return because there is no sticker on it, do you still want it?".............. "err....yes...".......(ouch).
\
By drilling a hole in the center of the bowl and the bottom of wood stick (or pepper shaker), it will be very easy to join them with a long wood screw.
Here is how the stand could look like (haven't drill/joint them yet, but that will be easy once I decide which configuration is better).
I think this bowl might be a little on the small side. I really like the idea of holding all the cabling within the bowl, looks neater this way. Might have to go back for the 10" $2.99 wooden bowl
(I was trying to keep the total cost within $3, and I am already over budget!
)
Thrift store shopping is always fun, if you haven't done it already, try one this weekend.
