Hi, i just bought a pair of HD650 that i drive with my rudistor RP5.1 amp. However the sound is just not clean ennuf. I need a pair of tubes that will live it up a little bit, put more speed and light to the mix. So what tubes do you think would do me good for pretty cheap (max 30$-40$). Right now the tubes i got are the 6922Gold from electro harmonix.

Let me see the light guys!

When I had RP5.1 with HD650 my favorite tubes were Amperex White Label 6DJ8's. All the Amperex tubes I tried were very good match for 650 but those white label ones were the best ones. You should try them.

Thank you Patu i will see for some amperex, also since i am buying some tube, do you have other tubes to propose me for clearer headphones like the DT880 or the CD3000. And lastly is the Rudi amp a good roller? Or should i let them more time in between the change?

It's impossible to find a pair of white label at your price point unless you buy them used on ebay. The best 6922 for price/performance is the amperox globe orange label. These come very close to the fabled Amperox PQ White Label USA at 1/4 the price. At $40its near impossible to find any decent NOS tubes, whether it'd be mullards for bloomy midrange and warmth or siemens for clean, balanced sound.

My suggestion is for you to stick with the EH gold pins, as they are the best tubes at the sub $40 category.

For brighter headphones like W5000 I preferred Mullard tubes. I just think that they're slightly over your budget. Try to look for them as used from eBay. I never actually tried any tubes in $30-40 price range. They were all more expensive.
