Yeah, if you read Kevin Gilmore's principles of design, one of them is that there should not be transformers in the signal path.

There is nothing wrong with using transformers in the signal path other then the prohibitive cost of the good ones. I'd take a nice Lundahl or Tamura over any capacitor any day...
