I'm planning on getting some dt880s and a JVC SU-DH1 for movies, but what's the point in spending all that cash if I can't also make music sound good? At a later date I want something like the WA3 (and much later a DAC), but am wondering if the musicality of it will help or hurt the detail/soundstage needed for movies.

So how are tube amps with movies? Anybody have experience?

Sure, I've watched plenty of movies on my laptop with sound routed through a tube amp.

It's hard to give an absolute answer, because the soundstage, et al. sound different depending on the headphones you're using as well as how they interact with the amp.

But generally, I like the combination. Mostly because the most important part of a movie is dialog (at least the movies I tend to watch) and tubes do the human voice better than anything. It sounds very natural.

In most cases for movies, the amp type doesn't matter. Solid state works well but I like tubes because it does make it sound more natural but I prefer tubes especially for my DVD live concerts. Sometimes when I watch an old classic movie, it feels kind of cool that tubes are reunited with the picture especially if the tubes I'm using are more than 40 years old.
