Inch long knives are objectively more dangerous than 2" car keys. Belts are arguably more dangerous, but you really can't get good momentum in an enclosed environment like a plane, and strangulation takes time.

On the other hand, 6.9" screwdrivers...

After what has happened, IMHO it will take more than an inch long knives to take over a plane or in that case 6.9" screwdrivers. You should remember, before 9/11, hijackers only want to take offer plane and get some ransom, not flying it into building. TSA should check more what goes into check in Baggage and doesn't need to bother with 'liquid bomb' which proven to happen in hollywood movies only.

I am thinking of joining them to try and make the system more effective. I want to make a difference.

Do you even know why liquids are banned? England plane bombing attempt? It was real, it nearly happened, and it would have worked if they didn't catch the liquid bombing plan prior to it being carried out. Thousands would have died.

muahhaha, do you believe everything that TSA has told you? Read this one Mass murder in the sky, was the plot feasible?
So because of this, all resources goes for finding shampoo and ignoring bomb.

The unannounced inspection by TSA officials took place early last week. The airport's security measures failed in five of seven tests, most of the problems occurring at the passenger checkpoint, the sources said.

Last October, the Star-Ledger newspaper of Newark, citing unnamed federal security officials, reported screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport flunked 20 of 22 tests, including failing to detect bombs and guns in luggage at checkpoints.

I don't know about you but if I flunk 20 of 22 test for my work, I will get fired especially if my works deal with something as sensitive as other's people safety.
The funny part is, instead of how to improve their personnel capability, TSA tried to blame someone else who made them look bad.

The TSA responded to the report by launching an internal investigation in which federal employees were interrogated about whether they had leaked the results, the newspaper said.

And I highly, highly doubt you could do enough damage with your belt buckle that would cause a threat to the plane. Or I highly doubt you could get your hands on any sort of liquid under 3oz that would threaten the plane.

Honestly, I think I can do much more damage with a belt and 2" car key than I can with that swiss army key-chain, that thing is tiny, I used it for the manicure scissors and tweezers.

3oz of liquid is almost 90 ml of liquid, which is much more than enough, in fact, just taking the lowly nitroglycerin (very easily made), 90ml is equivalent of around 170 mg of TNT and when detonated, it would cause significant damage to the surrounding area, not enough to really case damage more than a few feet away but putting it up against a window would be a very bad thing. Of course there are lots of things to mix in with nitro that do much more damage and there are tons of other very fun explosives to be made that would do more damage in small amounts. Here is a great forum for more info.

Nitro based explosives are EXTREMELY hard to slip past airport security, sniffer machines that are VERY accurate can detect trace amounts of Nitro based explosives on persons and in luggage. You have to get a bit more creative to slip liquid explosives over using simple, but volatile, nitroglycerin.

Yep. If you're creative enough, you can get around it.

Demolition experts always have trace amounts of nitro based explosives on their persons, especially when flying back and forth between jobs. If they're very careful about packaging, it'd be possible to keep the levels of trace explosives wherever you're carrying the bomb as low as the rest of your stuff. They'd give you a more intensive search, but given the displayed level of incompetence, I'm sure passing that would be much easier than the packaging part.

I'm not suprised, the TSA has basically been trained to take pointless things for thier own enjoyment.

Anyway, I have my own story about them that I went through on my way here to Vegas.

At the Philly airport you have to go through security for terminal to terminal (stupid) and I had a bottle of water in my bag, they took my bag off to the side saying I had a suspisous item in my bag. I was flying alone, and was already late. She took my E500 box out (all extra foams, PTH, and my E3s were in there) and she said "I'm gonna have to take this". I explained to here what it was and showed her, an she still said "I'm gonna have to take this". I grabbed it from her and told her that I was flying alone and that if she took it I would make her day hell. She put this stuck up face on, and walked off. Almost every major airport has ****** TSA, smaller airports though tend to have funny people behind the counters (ie, Manchester NH). Anyway, I think that the people in the TSA are desparate for power, and will do anything to get it, like take water bottles, electronics, etc...

Also, she didint find the water bottle...

Damn, you're very lucky. It seems like she wants that E500 for herself. What can you do with E500? Blow up the FA's eardrum

They do seem extra keen on being able to spot an Aquafina water bottle 10 miles away. However, who is going to make a bomb out of an Aquafina water bottle? I have accidentally gotten a few things past TSA that I thought later could have been used for harm.
