I'd had several cables on balanced configuration and one thing I've noticed is that the performance difference between stock HD650 cables and premium ones is NOT as striking as when they are configured on SE. I've tried Cardas and ALO vs stock wires - the differences are there but not staggering. Not sure why that is - so to test my theory, I tried to build my own using the following -

18/2 awg plated OFC cable (clear jacket), Qable splitter, Cardas connectors, Swiftcraft 4-pin XLR connector, some elbow grease and lots of planning. Wired as 4-wire litz, it is as flexible as the ALO but not as heavy. From a performance standpoint, it sounds just like the ALO, at a fraction of the price. Total length is about 2 meters. No cuts from end to end. 18awg is way more than plenty to ensure maximum signal transfer. Picture speaks a thousand words:

Nice, where did you get the cable splitter?

According to his post, it is a Quables splitter. They aren't priced too badly, although I don't know what shipping would be.

I like the Viablue aluminum y-splitters, don't have to order them from dutchland and they're about $30 for 3 shipped, from av-outlet.com.
