This may be a dumb question, but I'd rather ask for a second opinion and confirm that no adapter is actually needed.

I have headphones with a balanced TRRS socket:

Usually, I use a TRRS to 4-pin XLR cable to connect my headphones to a balanced amp.
However, my portable amp is single-ended, so I use a simple TRS to TRS cable:

This works because both L- and R- of the TRRS are connected to the common G of the TRS.
- What are the disadvantages of this connection method?
- Is there a better way to connect balanced headphones to a single-ended amp?

I think the main thing to be wary of is that there are sometimes multiple pinout standards for the same connector type- you might end up making an out of phase connection, or crossing the positives of the l/r channels of your amp together through one of the earpieces.

Also you probably wouldn't want to do this on anything that is single end but has a TRRS socket for a mic, remote or some other unexpected function.

Other than that it seems like as long as the socket is making good contact with just the two negative pins it should work ok? I'm no expert though (and don't have plugs on hand to compare their alignment).
