My HD800 ocassionally produces a high-frequency squeal when connected to the 4-pin jack of my Oppo HA-1. If I lightly fluff the cable, the sound either changes in frequency or goes away (sometimes to reemerge moments later). Moreover, if I add a 4-pin-to-1/8" adapter and connect the phones to my portable amp (with the same cable), the sound never occurs. This makes me think the problem is with the 4-pin jack of the amplifier. ... Does this sound right? And how should I go about fixing it?
Do you have a spare cable? Might want to try elimination the possibility you have some slight shorting in the cable's 4-pin connector. Doesn't seem likely from the symptoms you describe but might be an easier fix in case it is the problem.

Okay, so I have now tried a different balanced cable, amp, and a whole new set of headphones. Same problem. How can this be? Could it be a grounding issue?
