Hi

I have the Chaintech AV-710 with the 4.73b driver (setup as explained in this thread).

As a die-hard Winamp user i have downloaded the ASIO4All 2.8 Beta 2, and configured it according to this thread (I have also tried the default settings).

My problem is this:
With the ASIO4All plugin from the Winamp site, the player will lag and generally struggle when i do something else (like surfing the net).
This is especially evident when playing any of the wma music i've bought online. Also the time-counter doesn't work when playing these wma-files.

I should point out that there is absolutely no lag if I switch back to DirectSound in the Winamp preferences.

I have tried the plug-ins from the otachan website. The versions 0.63 and 0.67 seems to work great with no lag (and a working time-counter with wma), but unfortunately the volume-slider no longer effects the volume.
The 0.70 version do not produce any sound, and the 0.71 will not work at all.

Does anybody recognise this scenario or part of it?

Any suggestions - is there perhaps another plugin i could try or is it back to DirectSound for me?

PS: I'm using XP
PPS: NO FOOBAR

Make sure Winamp/ASIO4ALL is set to the highest priority setting for system resources.

My winamp died in the arse for some reason,... was a good reason to switch to foobar

... even though I haven't got the user interface exactly how I want it yet.

I had similar problems in Winamp with the ASIO plugins after 0.67... 0.70 never worked for me.

I did not know that kernal streaming was an option with Winamp. Where do i get this plugin, and how does it work?
I need more than the optical out, so flashing is not an option.

To psyllium: Did the volume-slider in winamp work in the pre 0.70 versions you were using?

You can get the plug-in by using www.google.com and it works exactly the same as Direct Sound. (without selecting DS that is)

Nup... although for the dream of 'bit perfection' the general idea is to have the software volumes at 100% and control the volume with your amplifier.

Thank you everybody - the KS-plugin works like a charm, and is very well documented.
I did not consider that the winamp volume-control would impact the SQ, but this is bypassed in this plugin, when the volume is set to 100% (a little stroke of genius in my book).

Again - thanks for the help.

I use itunes in my PC with USB DAC. As Windows XP K-mixer affect SQ adversely, I try to use ASIO driver. But itunes in PC does not seem to be able to altered to bypass K-mixer. Is this a common experience? How do I get around to use ASIO driver for better SQ? Thanks.

You'll have to incorporate another program's ASIO/KS capability. See this recent thread: iTunes/Foobar Users Audio Quality Guide.

Depending on the quality of your sound card, you may not want to follow aestuo's advice to resample (Step 2). For example, the AV-710 doesn't need resampling because it has native 44.1 kHz playback.
