Basically, I've got maximum portability on my mind, so I'm using a pair of Yuin PK1's with a 5.5 Gen Ipod / Microshar lineout connected to an ibasso T2 mini amp. I knew the limitations of the Pk1's were lack of isolation when I purchased them, but they are really a great sounding earbud, so I was willing to make that sacrifice, but let's say If I was to choose the UE Triple-fi's to take care of this issue, would they be complete overkill for this purpose? Is the triple-fi's that much of an improvement over the PK1's? Are they just too over the top for an ipod with a pretty decent, but not spectacular mini-amp and listening to mostly compressed MP3's at 192-256k bit rate with them?

Note: I have not heard the TF10P.

I wouldn't say so.

From my P.O.V, the purpose of you getting the PK1 is to enjoy the music right? If you plan to get the TF10P to do the same, I do not see any reason as to why not you should not, especially if you wish to have isolation on the go.

I do not know about the TF10P, nor do I know how the PK1s sound like, but what I do know about them is that you're meant to enjoy your music with them.

The T2 is not a spectacular amp, but it gets the job done whilst allowing for a bit of flexibility with a minor bass boosting system. Though there are better choices out there, the T2 will drive the TF10P more than sufficiently, given the application the TF10P is designed for (listening out of a portable player).

Out of a portable player, most people won't really bother discerning about compressing MP3s or whatever. I don't use FLAC on the go since they take up more battery life in addition of space (but then again, it doesn't help that my player is flash based), but rather anything between CBR 192kbps or LAME V3 VBR.

Basically, what I think is that on the go, you probably won't be discerning your music as much as you would at home, if you're that kind of listener that is.

Also, another factor about getting the higher end universal fit earphones is perhaps the possibility of future expansion of your rig should you choose to do so, and having to avoid getting hit by an upgrade bug (I hope) in case that ever happens.

Remember, its your sound, you're the one who'll be enjoying it.
If it makes you happy, no one else can be the wiser

Thanks to both of you for the input. I suppose I could buy them from a place with a good return policy and give them a try, because I'm really curious to hear what a high end IEM is capable of. My concern is that they will reveal all the limitations of my equipment and I'll end up revolving the hardware around the UE's by having to go on a buying spree to match the triple-fi's sound quality, and then it'll be goodbye wallet and hello Mr. credit card, don't you look tired!! :-)

i have a triple.fi and use it with my ipod and hornet. yup, it will reveal flaws in your present rig, as this iem is very transparent imo. so when i got it and noticed my mp3 to be lacking in sq, i reripped them, this time to lossless and higher bitrate mp3s. depending on your satisfaction and expectations, you might be tempted to upgrade other aspects of your setup. i have done that, and am now waiting for the pico.

my triple fi 10s definitely exceed my setup, it really shows the iphone weakness, they are such good iems! i can really hear the quality increase when going to my laptops headphone out, cant imagine how good theyd sound with an amp!

for me, i feel that the triple.fi sounds better with an amp, as compared to the headphone jack of my ipod. especially noticeable when my hornet runs out of juice, and i am forced to listen straight from the ipod. although the triple.fi is relatively easy to drive, achieving enough volume from daps, sound quality is much better. i wonder what would be the sq from an imod or dac/amp.

The synergy between my triple.fi and my creative zen vision:m is amazing to me. I'm not using an amp as I want my setup to stay as portable as can be. I tried many headphone-out and especially the headphone-out of my nano. Sounds pretty terrible... Only my zen gives me un-fatiging sparkling highs and maybe a weak bass but still very present and defined.

Even the PK2s exceed the Triple.fi in terms of presentation (which, makes sense, because the Triple.fi is an IEM). They're quite different, especially one being an earbud and the other being an IEM.

I could only imagine the PK1 scale even higher.

I've came to the conclusion that whatever limitations I have with equipment, quality of Mp3's, etc., I'll work around it if the payoff is excellent sound quality with great isolation. The Yuin Pk-1 that I have are harder to drive and obviously leak a lot, but the Ibasso T2 can still drive them pretty well, and the quality is top notch, so I'm hoping that the triple-fi's put the package I have on a different level albeit with a few sacrifices or needed upgrades. The main thing I need is isolation and portability

I've never been a big fan of IEM's because I didn't like the thought of something stuck way in my ear, but a friend let me try a pair of their metro-fi's and I thought, love the isolation without hardly any compromise to the sound and other than placing them in the ear correctly, I don't see too many issues if I can re-rip some of my lesser quality mp3's.

At this point I've made up my mind and I'm in the process of saving up for them and will probably have the money for them in the next two months, assuming something doesn't come up to derail that.

Thanks guys for the input!
