TRI earphone impressions - I4 and I3, Starlight, NEW Starsea
Sep 14, 2020 at 10:54 AM Post #601 of 3,865
Those planar mids are really important. I have the IT00 and it's close but not quite as good in the mids.

I'm listening to the Mofasest trio.... If it only just had the I3's planar mids....

This is why I sound like a broken record in my wish for a DD/planar/EST follow up to the I3.

Maybe the IMR PB2 or Semper gets it right, but I just don't trust the isolation or housings (or pricing or business model or owner...).

Come on KB/TRI! Throw us a bone. DD/planar/EST! TRI I5?

Sounds like a dream combination of drivers, my one concern is that they would be expensive.

Isn't their successor to the TRI I3 with ESTs the TRI Starlight?? But a bit too pricey to get in this current covid economy for myself. We gotta thank @ChrisOc for taking one for the team and getting the Starlight and giving his review.

The KBEAR BElieve is being discussed here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/kb-ear-audio-impressions-thread.912673/page-18#post-15860542 with some graphs by the tuner KopiOKaya. They are still awaiting feedback from the beta tuners like @Otto Motor .

The KBEAR Lark is a cheaper budget segment hybrid I think, some final beta graphs and pics here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/audioreviews/permalink/4441710495869227/

Of the two, I'm waaaaaaaay more interested in the KBEAR BElieve, as it is gonna be the most affordable full beryllium DD set on the market at $100ish. I've got fatigue from the many budget hybrids being released on an almost weekly basis in CHIFIland, so the Lark isn't that "groundbreaking" IMHO. But so far KBEAR has been releasing some good stuff like the TRI I3 and KBEAR KB04 and KBEAR Diamond (I wasn't that impressed with the KBEAR KS2 TBH), so I hope the BElieve can be a gamechanger.
What is the configuration of the Lark? 1DD, 1DD+1BA or something else?

I'm not sure, they are still in the midst of tuning it and maybe things will change even drivers wise. Maybe we can ask @WendyLi for more info?

ARGGGG TRI is releasing a new hybrid!!! Looks dope. Called the Starsea. Man the trident logo really gives it some Poseidon vibes.

No EST though, seems to be a 2BA (knowles) + 1 DD. $129 USD. Fiio FH3 competitor??

I so hope it is in my under $200 maximum but I doubt it...... but if it's Beryllium and BA's it will be less, maybe $120. (Edit).

My eulogy in praise of the TRi i3. The iBasso it00 has better bass, the ISN D02 has great bass, great air and is crisp. The Tri i3 takes a long burn in but the reward is where it counts. The mids are just right. Just that mid perfection makes the TRi i3 stand out. It's close but clear. Three cheers for the Tri i3 'Ear Potatoes'

DAMN! That faceplate looks damn beautiful!

No beryllium DD though :smirk:

Haha this Starsea is banking on the knowles BA for marketing. But knowles is so yesterday now. Beryllium is the current hype I suppose! (But even so, correct me if I'm mistaken, but Fiio FH3's beryllium is not full beryllium right? Just plated/coated like Urbanfun and Fiio FD1?).

Yeah, the FH3 is just coated. But that bass texture is almost unrivaled among my collection.

But well, tuning is more important since even the CNT DD in the A6 actually comes quite close to the texture of the FH3.

With that faceplate, I think I would’ve named it Aurora, like what @RikudouGoku eluded to.

@WendyLi, thank you for your response on the Lark.

We are now making a specific request for a specific model which we all want from TRI. As above 3 driver unit, made up of a Beryllium Dynamic Driver, a Planar magnetic driver and EST drivers.

The community has made this request to let you know that if well tuned (as with all TRI models so far) and reasonably well fitting and reasonably priced, you have willing buyers here.

We would be grateful if you could pass on our message to the decision makers at TRI/KBEAR.

Thank you and we look forward to your response.
